Good Omens (Prime Video) - based on the book by masters Gaiman and Pratchett

Whenever I try to describe it I made it sound shit, but I'll do my best!
Aziraphael and Crowley are respectively an angel and demon who have been living on Earth for the past 6000 years. They're "frenemies", and don't particularly want the heavenly or hell-ly forces to take over, so they make sure they cancel each other out (one will do something good while another does evil, sometimes one will do both so the other can have a day off)

But the Anti-Christ has been born, and the end of the world is coming.. Aziraphael and Crowley don't want this, as they love living on Earth. They try to make sure the boy is normal so hopefully the end times will be skipped ,but the demonic forces are building up within him and he independently wants to wipe the world clear so it can start again. The Four Horsemen are characters, allwith different influences over the world. They are called to action by the coming end times, and the boy's stirring powers.

Probably to an extent, but Gaiman was always a better TV writer than a novelist.
Gaiman is pretty good at world building, but frequently seems kind of weak on plot and endings. Pratchett was excellent at both. I love the book, and I'm hoping I have time this weekend to watch it. I have to admit having it as a miniseries was reassuring to me, book adaptations are generally better if they're not crammed into 2 hours.

My favorite part of the book was when some bikers decide to become their own version of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse and one of them is "Stepping in Dogshit."

Supposedly, Pratchett left extensive notes on how to adapt Good Omens with Gaiman. Hopefully, Gaiman will feel bound to honor his friend's memory and not yeet them out a window first chance.

Just watched the first episode - it was pretty solid. Could do with a little bit less narration, but otherwise not bad.
I don't know, so many of the jokes depend on the narration in the book. I watched the first episode and thought it was pretty damned true to the book. There is a lot of third person commentary in it that adds to the humor. I'll watch the second episode tomorrow, but so far it's meeting my hopes.

Do we have anything that points towards how much Gaiman loyal has been before so we can get an idea what to expect?

Well, I saw the first episode and it feels pretty decent. They put a lot in there, and I'm hoping they just pulled out the things they needed for a strong pilot and put them all in there - otherwise I'm going to be pissed if they leave out Anathema Device and all the other subplots.

They have some Gaiman Tumblrness, like having the Voice of God (the Narrator) be a female, and having a highly 'Diverse' cast with a black Adam and Eve and sassy WOC Beelzebub but I can only hope that it doesn't get worse.

I'm kinda interested in checking it out. Big fan of Pratchett. Not so much Gaiman. Kinda wondering if this is going to pander to Gaiman's little cabal of Tumblr thots.
Apart from casting choices as said by JohnDoe, there's nothing too Tumblr about it.

I've already finished the series haha ... it's great, it follows the book pretty damned well

Update: Tumblr is, of course, obsessed with it as basically every mutual I have is flooding my dash with this shit and going on about how gay and in love the characters are. One of my friends is writing tons of fanfiction about them and has ranted a few times about how they not shown as being in love and instead talk about being best friends. I don't get it tbh. It's not my kind of show and I have no interest in seeing it. Even though I like Michael Sheen.

Prime/netflix mistake aside, they're late, since the book was published in 1990 and has quite a lively fandom. And Christian groups go agaist the most harmless things while ignoring other, potentially more controversial media. Like when the Catholic Church freaked out about the Da Vinci Code, while Focault's Pendulum by Umberto Eco made fun of all religions and theorized that the four gospels are just a writing challenge between John, Matthew, Luke and Mark.
