Nah, there's one unifying thing behind 4chan. Strip away the trappings, whether it's /pol/, or /b/, /a/ or /v/, /k/, /h/, or /jp/, furfag or brony or nazi or whatever. It's that they're mostly nerds with some flavor of social disorder, whether that's being a basement dwelling NEET, or a successful person tired of the persona they have to wear in the real world, or someone just far enough off the median that normies can't click with them. The internet as a whole used to be a haven for people like that, but has shrunken down to the chan diaspora, kiwifarms, and a few other disparate places.
They want companionship, whether social, sexual, romantic or platonic. The extreme ideologies, the infamous tulpas, waifuing. It's all different expressions of the same root cause. Hell, remember that time some people on /pol/ unironically fell for Tay AI? Yeah, plenty were shitposting, but a few anons actually fell into the feelings trap. Snoot seems to be resonating particularly strongly with that.
Also, yes, coomers. Which is itself, arguably an addictive behavior rooted in a desire for companionship. Though, to be fair, a lot of anons seem to feel oddly dirty lewding Fang in specific.

I was just going to write a whole speil about this after having finished Snoot Game
You pretty much came to the same conclusion that I did. Visual Novels exist solely for lonely people. This is especially present in the sheer number of pictures posted with fang in normal settings like a dinner date.
These people are too sadbrained to play actual games, they don't want the mental stimulation and strategy of gameplay but the emotional charge of a relationship.
This is further broken down to why story fags are so prevalent on both sides of the ideological spectrum, when story as a whole is only a surface level arbitrary thing for games.
Not gonna lie, you lost me at the third paragraph. I don't even play VNs, and I could see several reasons for them to appeal besides "le sadbrain". I live a fairly fulfilling life, and occasionally even I like to try on a different mask or persona, to borrow from Jung a bit.. I will agree slightly to the loneliness part, but we all get a bit lonely sometimes, even if it's just something small like the wife doesn't like your favorite movie or there's one tiny part of you you can't share with anyone IRL. The chances of every last piece of your soul being fully compatible with everyone is impossible, and even with anyone is vanishingly unlikely. Last paragraph is a hard disagree, though.
Baldur's Gate, Nier, Metal Gear (retarded as it may be at times), Planescape, Deus Ex. Plenty of games for which the story is more than arbitrary. Some of them can stand on their own gameplay-wise, but others are carried by it, full stop.

Fully completed Snoot game, was pleasantly suprised, i expected a complete full on shitpost parody VN but the anons actually tried to build a story over the characters, the 4chan janny drama is hilarious but the project itself was very well made for an amateur and fully free project, if these mad lads keep adding to it, the fucking thing could reach 4chan VN levels like Katawa Shoujo but with more scalie faggotry so its unfortunately less based

Metal gear, Deus Ex, and Planescape are all carried by their mechanics. Deus Ex allows you to choose how to enter and exit a level and what pathways to explore. Metal gear's stealth system was very elaborate for it's day. They're all mechanically sound and the story is effectively just the surface layer. The reason why Kojima's stories get as retarded as they do is because he knows that if the mechanics don't measure up no story can save it, so the story being batshit crazy doesn't matter if the gameplay is solid.
Games that are carried by their stories tend to be bad games.

Found the github for Snoot Game. According to the devs, they supposedly sent a beta version of the script to a random anon and said anon transformed the game.
There's also allegedly plans for a Steam and mobile release.
Fanfics are being made and a couple anons have been compiling any that they come across.If there's a compilation of any fanart, I've yet to see it. Edit: Actually, there is. (thanks @Sunflower Samurai)
