Apparently the RTX 3080 Ti is out now.
And you can't buy one.
Oddly enough, a quick peek at online retailers for those of us who are Britbongs shows that there are more AMD cards in stock right now than Nvidia. Overclockers has quite a few variants of the Radeon 6900XT for around £1,500 and that's not bad considering that it's almost as strong as an RTX 3090 albeit with less developed ray tracing and we all know that ray tracing is a meme. There's also 6700XTs for around £800. I believe the 6700XT is slightly behind to the 3070 but ahead of the 3060 Ti.
Scan likewise has these cards in stock.
However neither of them have a single Nvidia card.
Now if AMD could concentrate on hammering out more cards and getting their equivalent of DLSS (I think it's called Fidelity FX) implemented in the drivers, they might actually win this generation because Nvidia has left them an open goal once again.

Oh boy paying $400 for a Shiny 1050Ti makes me nervous.
I mentioned Quadro's a couple of posts up, they're usually from office machines so they probably won't be sticky and full of cig smoke. If you go on eBay there's currently lots of Quadro P2000's or P2200's. They pull lots of them out of Dell and HP systems on their way out and one of the big sellers is in Japan it looks like. The P2000 and P2200 looks to have been selling for as low as 225 and up to 300 bucks over the last week and they're both 5GB GTX 1060 variants. The P2200 have much faster memory, GDDRX5, but seems to be priced the same as the P2000 so it should be the preferred one. If you got one of those in this day and age at $230 that's a pretty good deal.
The regular 1060's on ebay can be both cheaper and more expensive than the cards listed above, with a healthy mix of scammers sucked in by GPU-mania. Boring professional OEM parts recycled from office computers in Japan feels more risk free to me, if the price is agreeable.
edit: my personal preference buying anything used these days is in person, I want to see it first. Last time I bought something unseen from a trading platform I got RAM that only works in servers and high-end workstations.
bigger question is, do you need it now? because the more money you spend now you'll be able to put towards a new PSU later and solves two issues at once. sucks but that's the way it is.

AMD just solved the GPU crisis for some people. Just use FidelityFX Super Resolution's IDGAF mode on your old GPU for +200% performance.

Hmmm, but like DLSS on Nvidia don't you need to have the game support it in the first instance?
If so, then splashing out on a 6900XT (which you can actually get) may be justified given the RTX 3080 Ti is likely to be the same MSRP as the AMD card is going for, but there's 6900XTs in stock in places. RTX is still a meme, so you really aren't missing out.
It's said to be easier to implement than DLSS, but that remains to be seen. It does have to be enabled game-by-game for now, and AMD provided a form where you can submit your personal information. Along with your "favorite game" that you want to see get FSR support.

If some people are writing their own 3D engine they're smart enough to implement it themselves. Expect to see asset flipped Unity games made by 13 year olds running DLSS at some point.
AMD will follow but it's not like there's any hurry right now on PC. They are in a good situation though, FidelityFX is part of the Xbox SDK and possibly(likely) the PS5 SDK in some form or mutation. Anyone developing for consoles won't have to do as much work to keep the PC version running on AMD GPUs competitive with the features Nvidia is offering.
I also read, or imagined, that the GPU support for the virtual geometry system(nanite) of UE5 goes all the way down to the 750Ti. Cool. It's still a preview but people on youtube are running the included shiny tech demo/environments on 1060s at 1080p, with display scaling of course, and it looks good. One I saw had a mostly tight 30fps, going up to 40 with some heavy dips to low 20s that actually felt stuttering, but that looked to happen in situations where lots of new stuff had to be loaded in so maybe it was running on an HDD, that wasn't specified.
Geometry isn't a problem which is cool, another dude was running a 1060/R5 1600 system and laid out a grid of 25,000,000 cheese burgers, adding up to a total of 100 billion triangles, and it ran at roughly 50-60fps in the editor itself.
It makes me think of when Nvidia(in association with DX&OGL) sort of promised not endless but more expansive cheeseburger-fields than was possible at the time using instancing, back with the GF4 I think? The same object could be recycled and transformed then rendered multiple times in different places in the same draw call as if it was all one mesh instead of creating a long queue of tiny bullshit where time spent setting up draw calls that vastly outweighed render cost, the example they showed was how it could be used to populate a dense asteroid field with rocks.

Maybe I will hang on and just build a whole new PC, mines like 8 years old at this point but when you only play WoW and some titty games it works fine.

As for the standard RTX 3080, there are none to be had other than from scalpers and other pondlife. Scan still has 127 unlucky fuckers in its order queue since launch day. Probably because Nvidia is using all its production capacity to make Tis and other overpriced shit because the profit margin is larger. Meanwhile, you can get an AMD card even if it's at an inflated cost. If they were to concentrate on just hammering out existing cards apace they will spank Nvidia like a redheaded stepchild. I mean, there's nothing wrong with the RX 6700 XT. Good enough for 1440p with a Ryzen 3600 and a nice lil' B550 mATX board, surely.

But as posted above, £750 at retail for a 6700 XT, that's a thousand bucks. Eat my ass 2021.
Looking at local retailers they don't have anything AMD and the huge new stock of really expensive 2060s have been sold out. Only 710s left... with one exception.

Some of that is the whole UK retailers just turn the $ into a £, the RRP of a 6700XT is $479 (or £339) but the UK RRP is £419 (or $590).
To do the maths on what I brought, 749 - (419 RRP +40 for free mother board +50 for Gigabit name) = 240 overpay or 57%...
Yeah I'm not happy about what I paid but I needed a graphics card and the free motherboard is hopefully decent...
I guess as a stopgap for my gpu woes I should pick up one of those new AMD Ryzen G APUs (if I can even get one on release) till dedicated GPUs become some level of normal, I need a new CPU anyway and I assume the APU will perform better than my ATI HD 6870 even if it is based on old Vega and uses system memory.
A320 chipset though. That means you're limited to Ryzen 1000 or Ryzen 2000 with bios-flashing. Though to be fair, I was on a Ryzen 1600 from 2017 until last summer and it's still a capable processor. For gaming, the only games I know of that use more than six cores are CP77 (which is very CPU heavy) and, erm, possibly some of the newer Total Wars (i.e. those post Total Warhammer II). I think. Though that will change from here on in, so maybe a 2700X? Certainly PCIe 4.0 is out the question (that's only on B550 and above I think).

It supports up to Ryzen 3000. Motherboards are still plentiful and you can pick up a nice B450 or B550 for a fraction of what that GPU costs.
