Speaking of pastebins, there are a bunch of generals on /k/ that have pastebins that have basic resources for people that want to know more about good handguns, AKs and gear along with good info to know when buying one like the price of the gun and the ammo depending on the ammo and what the cheapest guns on the market currently are.

My advice is don't worry about any shit the internet says to start. Only thing you need to research is state law.
- Don't overthink the first purchase. Get a Glock 19, a S&W M&P Sport 2, or a nice 12 gauge pump. These will hold their value if you want to sell them later. You don't need a special unique gun and you don't need tacticool weapon mods.
- Look up a local gun safety course and attend it
- Go to the range often
- r/gundeals will help you find good ammo prices.

Honestly what made me post this thread is a shit ton of anime girls with guns in my twitter feed. It drives me crazy that I don't know what all those parts are for, and they look epic.
Ammunition and clothing would be interesting too. Basically everything that can be drawn and seen.
What I'm least interested in is purchasing a gun (at least currently), but like I said I came here to educate myself and all info is good info.

When I read the title, I thought OP was planning to hire a hitman.
I'd start with a simple shotgun. Mossberg 500 is a great quality gun at a very cheap price. Fun to shoot clays with (I've never really been into shooting paper targets for fun, only when I need to sight in a hunting firearm) and you can hunt just about anything with a 12 gauge, from squirrels to deer.
I also prefer shotguns to handguns for home defense as well. I feel Id have a better chance to hit someone with full choke and BBs in a dark room when I'm suddenly woken up by an intruder than I would with a 9mm.

Just binge watch Forgotten Weapons and C&Rsenal.
Go to a range in your area and try out some pistols in 9x19mm Parabellum. That is the NATO standard for side pistols so you should have lots to try out. Listen to the instructor when he/she tells you how to hold it. I cannot stress that last bit enough.
A .22 is a nice "baby's first gun". Get a cheap used .22 rimfire rifle at a gun show, anshutz are nice. Learn the basics, start plinking. Ammo is cheap and plentiful as well.
