Gyroball - Real or Just a really good screwball?

Dumb question, but is the gyroball something different or a weird way of throwing a screwball? My buddy’s been sperging at me about how the gyroball is real, but all I see is a weird pitch that’s sort of a cross between a screwball and a curveball. Could anyone explain?
