Accurate. Appalachia is saturated with a particular strain of Christianity. They have a radical view of Sola Scriptura, viewing an individual's interpretation/relationship with scripture to be just as valid as an ordained priest. It makes sense why they're so anti-Catholic. There's also no doctrinal purity to reel in the apostates. That's not even mentioning their history and geography isolating them from the surrounding areas.
