Has anyone ever found "The Classic" out in the wild? -

I've been lurking for a long time but decided to finally participate in discussions.

Anyways, I like to go thrifting and while I usually just look for electronics, vidya and books, recently I've started browsing the clothes to see if I can find any of Chris' iconic clown shirts.

So of course I wanted to find "The Classic" but for a while I didn't even try looking because I just kinda figured it was home made by a relative. So one of a kind. At least the denim collar looks like an alteration to me. But I guess I couldn't accept that some madman at St. John's Bay actually designed clothes that look that awful.

Some of his shirts, like "The Advice Dog" I'm sure I'd recognize right away but seem so unique I doubt I'll ever run across it.

I haven't been able to find any exact matches but I did find this:

Again, not a perfect match, the collar is white and the there's no white stripes between the red and blue. But not bad for $4. It actually looks a lot like the shirt Chris was wearing in the covert photo taken at The GAMe PLACe but with different colors.

Has anyone ever found "The Classic" anywhere?

A-Log somehow found this which looks a lot like it.

Unless this is a shop come to think of it. Because it's actually exactly the same shirt, which seems kind of unrealistic.

ETA: Trying to find an original with Chris that this could be from. The background looks a lot like Chris's room. I'm too tired though.

ETA: I nearly deleted this when I saw all the A-Log ratings and then realized how perfect that rating was for this post.

I think I saw it or something really damn close once in Maine. The guy wearing it was middle aged

It's actually not a bad shirt! It's a little big on me but I can see myself wearing it around the house.

I'm not a Chris Chan cosplayer or anything but if I ever appear on camera for something I'd like to wear it and see if anyone gets the reference.

I got those kind of shirts for Christmas from my Aunt when I was in middle school and I'm close to the same age as Chris. They exploded in popularity for gross middle America moms with sons in the mid nineties. Chris wore them for another 15 years after that. It's not that uncommon. Some men still wear them, it's a fucking mess. They look like cartoon people clothes. I was embarrassed to wear mine, I thought it made me look like a total pussy when I was 11. Chris saw a lot of appeal in clothing that only an animated dipshit would wear.

I knew a special needs kid in middle school who occasionally wore a shirt vaguely reminiscent of the classic. Other than that though, garishly-colored striped shirts are evidently not particularly popular in my area.

Yeah, that's a shop. :geek: Here's the original, because I kinda love how blank Chris's expression is in it:

Also, I remember seeing the Classic out in the wild when I visited family in Greece a few summers ago. I was eating lunch at an outdoor restaurant, this band of kids passes by, and one of the younger ones was wearing a near-exact version of it (sans the denim collar).

Yeah, I've actually seen the 'classic' both in the wild and (oddly enough, last time I looked; don't judge me) on eBay. Or at least, things that looked a lot like the classic. Those shitty rugby shirts that Chris used to wear were very real, mass produced clothes, and I've seen them in both the US and overseas. I've never seen the advice dog one in the wild though. I have seen the Dunwich horror, the Bordeaux butcher, the ivory poacher, the Napoleon... or, again, very close approximations. How sad is it to imagine there's a sweatshop churning out knock offs of those fashion abortions?

Like most things in his life, Chris' clothes were drawn from bargain bins and second hand stores. I've noticed that while I can't put my finger on it, special ed kids definitely seem to have a fashion all their own. I think part of its because to some degree, they rely on their parents to dress them, and... well lets be honest, people of a certain age definitely loose touch with what's 'cool.' Stuff like that tends to linger in small towns too, but in Chris' case I think its mostly that he didn't care about how he dressed because it didn't involve Pokemon or Sonic.

That said, it amazes me that he never got into t-shirts until relatively late in life. Yes, he got the 'Mount and Do Me' and 'Want Vagina' ones as his lovequest deteriorated, and he has his favorite Manchester high shirt, but given that there are plenty of t-shirts that boldly advertise the wearer's love for Sonic, Pokemon, MLP, and just about every fandom, I'm absolutely amazed he never got into those in high school or community college. We know he hung around the mall too, so I'd have expected him to pick up something like that from Hot Topic or Spencer. Meh.

He still has absolutely terrible fashion sense, especially for someone aping being a woman, though I suppose that could partly be because his idea of what a woman dresses like largely come from a gross whore like Barb and the old women on British comedies they play on PBS.

Wool sweaters bothered me a lot when I was younger.

Then I figured out I was allergic to them. I've heard the argument that it's not the wool per se but the lanolin, but... eh, it's modern times and there's many synthetic and even natural alternatives so I just don't wear wool.

I'm not sure if "The Classic" would have been wool, tough; the one I linked to before says "cotton". I don't have any problem with cotton.

The denim collar is from another shirt he's wearing underneath. I can't remember what the medical term is, but a lot of autists have this thing about certain materials touching them.
Think of being irritated by an itchy wool sweater plus tism.

I know what you're talking about, that's why he has the wrist warmer on the back part of the Sonichu Medallion. But I don't think it's another shirt underneath. In that picture with the Guitar Hero controller he's wearing a blue t-shirt underneath. I'm sure the denim collar is attached to "The Classic"

Wrong size (L), but this eBay auction is pretty close. It's missing the crest, though.

EDIT: This XXL one is brown and black but looks almost red and blue in the photo, like if someone wanted to cosplay as "slightly desaturated photograph" Chris.

That looks pretty close! But he only has four bands of blue. Looking at other shirts from St. John's Bay I'm really starting to think I was right- the denim collar has to be an alteration. I've seen people change out the collars on dress shirts at seamstresses, I wouldn't be surprised if the denim collar is an alteration.

i bought a version that was similar off of ebay but I haven't been able to find it in my closet in a long time. I really need to find it at some point.

there was also this guy at AGDQ or SGDQ a year or two ago wearing one that was similar, I took a screenshot because it caught my eye.
