Something i have wondered about racing games lately is that it seems like we' re getting more racing sims and simcades It does makes me think that arcade racing classics (outrun, burnout, motorstorm,f zero, etc) it looks like the only place you can find arcade racers is in the dave n busters type places and most of them never get ported and side topic the lack of arcade racers could explain the problem with rammers in racing sims and simcades

Do you mean in arcades or do you mean arcade-style racing because, for the latter, there have been recent entries like Hotshot Racing and Need for Speed: Heat as well as Dirt 5 bringing back the arcade rally physics for anyone who finds Dirt Rally too technical?

(When it comes to Dirt, however, I think I still like the 2007 version best since it was at about the 50/50 point between sim and arcade before Colin McRae died in the helicopter crash and the main series got too "X-Games/Monster Energy Drink/neon splashes everywhere/nu-metal/goddamn tedious gymkhana" for my liking.)

I dunno, the most recent Need for Speed game I've played is Rivals on XBox 360 but some racing game channels I watch like FailRace seem to like Heat best of the most recent 3 console NFS games and I'll probably buy it when it's on the $30 racks at Walmart.

It was a shame though that EA decided to give up on NFS Heat so quickly, even though reception to it was pretty good, compared to past NFS titles. To think that The Crew 2 is still being updated even after celebrating it's 2nd anniversary, despite how bad the game was on launch, yet NFS Heat didn't even last for a year (I think) before they stopped updating it, says a lot.

Heat's pretty good and at 30 bucks I'd say go for it. I've been having quite a bit of fun with free version of Trackmania too.

well actual arcades (at least where I live) are getting more and more rare (RIP:c)
It seems like it's easier to find arcades now than it was 10 years ago, but arcades are now adult-oriented and tend to be a part of bars. And then you've got the giant chains: Dave & Busters, Round 1, and Main Event, which all have bars and other random activities like bowling or restaurants or whatever.

That being said, arcade racers like the OP asked about are still being made and tend to be at those huge chains, but they don't get home ports anymore. Like you just flat out can't get a home version of Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune, even though it's developed by Namco Bandai and a new one just came out at the top of this year.

TeknoParrot has emulators for some initial D and wangan midnight games, and you can do online with em.

Damn I miss the days of playing Crusin' USA and getting the ending of meeting Bill Clinton in a hottub with his hag of a wife.

I remembered playing California Speed in arcades, and I think one of the races in that game featured a shopping mall, where you can run over people in there, but the way they get hit makes them appear to be like cardboard cutouts, and it's nowhere like running people over in games like GTA.
