Have reactions made the internet a worse place? -

Have they?

Edit: Why do reactions exist? They didn't exist yonks ago, so why now?
Yes its a form of conditioning a person. Likes and Dislikes groom people into a certain mindset, Some of it is warranted others can be used in a subversive way. Look up Scholarly articles pertaining to "In group preferences and favoritism vs out group preferences and favoritism". Essentially even if you know the group is wrong, you agree with them so not to be an outlier. This is a general study and does not necessarily apply to everyone but it does for most Ex. all the people complaining about KF stickers. Many cults utilize this concept to great effect. It is used primarily to make one conform...

If you are that thin skin that internet stickers send you into a tard rage you need to go outside and get off the computer as you need to learn basic People Skills and how to function like a human being.

One could argue that they’ve brought down the level of discourse but that was in the shitter from the very beginnings of the Internet—the written word, really.

secret watcher has answered this and the answer is no, no they haven't. The Dumb rating made me chuckle
If he do not wish to use the forum, then he shouldn't have the option of voting either. At least answer why it's dumb.

for a more serious answer, they're actually a mechanism to give feedback without comment clutter. You don't want 100 responses saying "I like this"
Instead we have 100 types of reactions.

On KF, negative reactions is more of a petty form of bullying. It's not a coincidence it's the same people that keep neg rating completely fine posts.
Or because some do not genuinely know that some form neg rating gives a neg hit to the reaction score. When they meant to rate horrific or autistic.
