I actually met someone recently IRL who knew about Chris, and the farms. They got really excited and started talking to me about it. It freaked me out somewhat since I like to keep autistic internet shit seperate from my real life. When you start talking out loud about Chris chan and Sonichu and ADF and whatnot out loud it really puts into perspective how pitiful it all is- the lolcows in question, and you yourself for being interested enough in it that you willingly look at infected taint wounds and creepy sonic fanart. You start questioning yourself and your priorities, the kind of person that you are if you've spent 7 years of your life on this site talking about trannies.

They were a couple, the guy laughed at the absurdity of it but that was it, the female however developed a morbid curiosity (this girl had been watching Kay for years) I think she had the makings of a shitlord but her husband didn’t like me and her having shared interests.

This reminds me of Chris and his facsination of character arms. Obviously there was Blarms, and now quite recently, there was fan art where it was depicted that Sonichu had Rayman arms, meaning no arms, just floating gloves. It's like being into a TV show where the jokes work in their context, but when you hear some dork quote it out loud in real life because "lol I recognize that thing" it ruins the humor and feels embarrassing. It's also how I feel when people quote reddit/4chan/whatever the fuck shit in real life. Being a nerd is cool in the mainstream so long as you have the right opinions about the nerd shit you're consuming. You didn't like that recent retcon? Well you're just an old fart who hates change. You dislike the political shift in the comics you read? You're a bigot. You didn't like the latest marvel movie? Well then you're not a real fan, and you're also probably a sexist or something.

I don't think it's gatekeeping to say that whenever something is completely opened to a general audience/consumer, it gets ruined. That was part of the thinking behind the paywall on SA. We made fun of them for being a bunch of circlejerking fart sniffers, but their community has survived in basically the same state for far longer than most other forums from the same period. I'm willing to bet that SA will outlast KF.

Everyone wants to be in a club, you know? A place where only you and your friends understand all the references, and the in-jokes. When new people come in it's completely natural to resent them, because more often than not the community cannot survive the transition from underground to mainstream.

I decided to show my managers at my job, and ask their opinions on the video and what to do if a situation like that were to ever come up. Here were their reactions.

Usually the people I hang out with are other nerds who are familiar with sites like 4chan, so they're already aware of who Chris is. They aren't really interested much beyond the surface level. As far as they know Chris is just a weirdo who gets followed around a lot by other weirdos. I don't think they know much about the sagas, besides the most famous ones that get circulated on places like /v/, for example the Gamestop incident or the Sonic totem.

Sometimes for shits and kicks I make the odd reference to the golden days of Chris. Essentially talking about how it's this fat nerdy autistic kid that ended up trooning out and macing a GameStop employee over Sonics blue arms. Most people just look puzzled and horrified, others laugh. This was when I was a lot younger in the early prime days, I'm talking like 2009,2010 though. Not so much these days.
