I don't think you quite understand how fucking large the Christian market is with 200 million Christians in America alone and how quickly a large portion of that market will ban programs from their home for being perceived as "anti-Christian".

The fact that every major corporation has been tripping over themselves to pander to the gays as much as possible every June leads me to believe that angering the hardline Christian market is nowhere near the profit killer that it used to be. Also, I don't know why you credit Rick and Morty in particular, considering it's usually very low on the edginess scale by the standards of an adult comedy cartoon — hell, South Park has been far edgier for decades, and even specifically makes fun of Christianity every chance it gets. (Also, while it's not animated, I'll take this opportunity to shout out Your Pretty Face Is Going To Hell, which deals with the same ideas as Vivzie while being, imo, funnier). I'd say Hazbin's weird art style and presentation is going to be a bigger obstacle than its edginess — it deviates drastically from the look and feel people have come to expect from adult cartoons.
The fact that old media that panders to anti-Christians is dying and subscription services that openly tell Christians to fuck off typically lose a bunch of subscribers in the after math says otherwise. I am not saying all Christians do this, but its a significant enough market to not be fucked with if your a sane human being. The current crop of retarded executives are not sane human beings though.
I'm actually curious, are A24's executives really as braindead as you say? Their film division both has a pretty good critical track record and doesn't shy away from films that are very experimental and auteur, which indicates, to me, that they make their choices based on what they think will be high-quality rather than what will generate maximum safe, easy profit like most execs. But, in all fairness, I don't know anything about their TV division, so you may be correct there.
I am more speaking in general for TV media. Movies are very different from TV. A24 has a fantastic track record with movies, but that is a genre where they are allowed to take far more risks due to the investment only lasting a relatively short period of time (1-5 years) with historically large profit margins. To sum up, you can afford to target a much more niche market and still get a return.
