Like every other horror fan out there, I love a good horror anthology. Be it a movie like George A. Romero and Stephen King's CREEPSHOW, BODY BAGS, DEAD OF NIGHT, TALES FROM THE HOOD, TRILOGY OF TERROR, AFTER MIDNIGHT, or horror TV series such as TALES FROM THE CRYPT, TALES FROM THE DARKSIDE, MASTERS OF HORROR or NIGHT GALLERY, I'm always down for a solid horror anthology.

And today we have word via EW that a new horror anthology show called FOLKLORE is heading to HBO NOW, HBO GO, HBO On Demand and partners’ streaming platforms next month. Each episode is based on a respective country’s myths and folklore, featuring supernatural beings and occult beliefs. Overseen by different directors, each story was also filmed in the local language of the country. The first season is comprised of six one-hour-long episodes that take place across six Asian countries — Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, and Thailand.

Episodes include the Indonesia-set “A Mother’s Love” about:

A single mother and her young son who discovers a group of dirty and underfed children living in a mansion’s attic

And a tale from Malaysia called “Toyol” in which:

A Member of Parliament turns to a mysterious woman who possesses shamanistic powers in order to salvage his town’s dire economic situation.

You can check out the trailer for the upcoming horror anthology series below, and the banner poster above. After that let us know if you plan to check out this new series when it hits next month, and what you're favorite horror anthology movies and TV shows are as well! And then remember to mark your calendars as HBO's FOLKLORE will be landing on HBO NOW, HBO GO, HBO On Demand and partners’ streaming platforms on February 1st.

This is a bad writer shouting "I am going to list every horror anthology I can think of because I want everyone to know I am a true and honest horror fan gaiz!"

Also inb4 American company making shows about Asian folklore is cultural appropriation.

A bit late to the party considering both American Horror Story and Crypt TV have been around for a while now. If it gets good reception I might pirate it.

Is it bad that all I can think of is the anthologies that they missed? They named off the ones everyone knows.

As for the show, I'll give it a shot. Masters of Horror was mostly good, but I wish it had lasted longer. The problem is that people don't seem to be interested in horror anthology much now a days.

I just hope its weird. The best part about horror anthology shows is how weird they can get compared to normal horror. I also found it funny how they only mentioned the most popular horror anthology shows. They didn't even mention Fear Itself, Monsters, or the 80s and 2000s Twilight Zone which are pretty well known.

Not a bad idea for a show honestly. It'd be cool seeing other countries' fucked up folklore adapted for a horror anthology. I see a lot of potential in this.

Unfortunately, I don't have HBO so I won't get to see it for a while.

It needs some Takashi Miike madness. Maybe HBO will air the Miike madness that Showtime refused to.

I will watch it anyway before I judge it. Being an HBO series, I will hope that it is not a watered-down PG-13 horror series that tries to get the middle schoolers watching it.

That was also the best episode of Masters of Horror.
