Within Tumblr and other parts of the internet, there is a special kind of special snowflake. That's right, these snowflakes aren't content with making up pronouns or fake ethnicities, they've gone the extra mile by claiming that their bodies are hosts to entire "systems" of other personalities who can "front," or take control of the body, at any given time.

Let me make it abundantly clear that these people do not suffer from Dissociative Identity Disorder or schizophrenia, nor do they claim to. They're literally just playing with a grown-up version of imaginary friends and pretending to oppressed because of it. Anyway, this video can explain it better than I can:

Here are some of my favorite posts involving headmates:

If you didn't know, our very own Vade has headmates!

If you don't understand this cap (and I don't blame you), basically this Tumblrina is claiming that her headmates assault and rape one another. So there's that.

Wow, first rape, and now murder? But I thought that having headmates is fun and in no way negatively impacts your life the way DID and schizophrenia do?

The "I have DID!" excuse is becoming more common. I think almost every Tumblrkin who's got a thread here claims to have it.

One of my favorite thing about headmates and 'systems' is that they all have the same basic characters. There's the happy peppy headmate, the stoic protector of all other headmates, the dark ebil edgelord who's ass you better kiss or else, the minor, the one who's sarcastic but actually nice deep down, and Kevin Bacon.

Of course, the thing about the Tumblrtards claiming they have DID is that they have none of the symptoms and all their stuff contradicts a person with DID:

1. It's so rare the medical community is wondering if it even exists as a full disorder or if it's culture-bound.
2. The person who has DID is almost never the first person to know. Usually it's friends and family who notice it first.
3. The people claiming that headmates = DID don't understand the symptoms- the personalities are not some random character from a series one likes, there's a sense of time loss, spotty as hell memory, extremely inconsistent behavior, etc. Tumblrtards never display any of the traits of DID from what I've seen and their personality is extremely consistent. They just think that their normal changes of mood are somehow changes in personality, which is fucking dumb.
4. DID is caused by extreme constant trauma, usually starting very early in life. Tumblrtards, for the most part, do not have that history.
5. Their idea of DID/headmates is clearly based on the Hollywood/Jekyll and Hyde interpretation of things, which is not how actual DID works. For example, a person being in contact with the alternate personalities (often called alters) is only after therapy and, even then, it's not how these idiots try to portray it.

My point is they're doing yet again another special snowflake grab for attention by faking a serious mental illness. It's fucking retarded.

Multi-systems:
"For when you can't just be one gender!"

Or as the skip-stick commercial says:

"For when you just wanna show off."

Strange that I quoted that commercial despite not being a 90s kid.

I may be just a mere cishet singlet but back in my day when you got a major nerd-on for wanting to be just like a character you like, you just rubbed it out with some roleplaying and moved on with your life.
Why is being a nerd becoming a cult-ish thing now? Fuck this is so creepy.

Yep, all of this. One of the biggest flags for DID is lapses in memory; people will lose entire hours (like, it will be 2pm and when they
"wake up" it'll be 6pm) or even wind up in places that they have no memory getting to. There's no shared consciousness; "multiple systems" act like it's all one big party in their heads where personalities "front" and everyone else just hangs back and watches when in reality people with DID (usually) only ever have one dominant personality at a time.

Also, I love how these snowflakes manifest their alternate personalities on Tumblr. Vade is a prime example. She'll forget that she shares her body with other personalities for weeks at a time, only to suddenly be reminded of it and make a halfhearted attempt at posting as one of her alters. She also never makes any real attempt to distinguish her writing style; it's always just "Vade types with more exclamation points than usual" or "Vade tries to sound vaguely threatening."

So Tero has no pronouns, meaning that we should change our language to accomodate it and be politically correct.
Where have I read that before?

That sounds a lot like most people on a Saturday night.

The way it works with these non-DID systems is that they roleplay their "headmates" (OCs, essentially) full-time, even when they're alone. When you do this for a while your brain sort of learns to conceive of itself as more than one person, if that makes sense. You compartmentalize your experiences and frame your memories as "oh Akira (because LBR they all have shitty weeaboo names) was fronting when that happened" and that becomes "Akira did [thing]". It is teaching yourself to dissociate to deal with stuff you don't want to deal with, basically.

And like. I don't think it's necessarily the worst coping mechanism in the world, or it wouldn't be if they didn't make a huge special snowflake identity pageant about it. Lots of creative types roleplay their characters in their heads and being Tumblr multiple is kind of the same thing only it's been warped by Tumblr's whole economy of belief thing.

Does anyone remember the term "head voices" from the early 2000s? I remember seeing it quite a bit when I was younger on the internet, a few of my then internet acquaintances claimed to have 'head voices' which was essentially this, but instead of them taking over the body as these "multiple system" people do, they'd just say they could hear other characters talking in their head and that was it. Also as far as I know most of the people had their own characters talking to them, although I do remember someone claiming to have had Robotnik (yes from Sonic) in their head.

It seems like it started there, but then as the internet went on it just grew into an even bigger and more ridiculous beast.

I remember head voices too, but it always seemed to be used in an "lol so random *holds up spork* I'm a special snowflake" way than someone who genuinely believes that they have multiple personalities.

The people that I used to be familiar with that did this treated their "head voices" as legitimate friends or entities that just happened to co-exist, but nothing to the degree it is now. Of course there always was and always will be the "funny random XD XD XD" people that type shitty script RPs in deviantART comments, but that's not exactly who I was thinking of specifically.

Oh, gotcha. No, I never met anyone who took it seriously.
