I'm not sure if they were "the cult of cults", yes they were a cult, yes they were weirdos, but I think of Scientology as the best example of a cult because of the way it attacks critics, much like today's cult of Woke, the Heaven's Gate people mostly just kept to themselves, didn't they?

At any rate it shows how big a fucking deal UFO culture was in the 1990s, to where people were literally killing themselves over it, I feel like that's an aspect of 90s culture that gets too easily forgotten.

The series was good. I hate that LPotL never talks about the victims or murders anymore. Thats the best part of serial killer podcasts but they spend hours on the childhood and then none on the actual crime or police investigation.

I started listening from the beginning and am only up to episode 250 or so. It sucks to hear they stopped talking about the crimes.

The funniest thing about this is that the site is maintained by two members who weren't allowed to engage in the mass suicide, and it was for the sole purpose of maintaining the website.

Imagine being wrapped up in some crazy death cult who decides to engage in mass suicide and being the only ones who aren't allowed to go through with it because you have the mundane task of operating their website. That has to sting.

But that one was a failed socialism so it doesn't need to get mentioned, don't want to cause anyone confusion about how socialism can fail or anything.
