Recommend your favorite heavy music, regardless of whatever sub genre it falls under.

Counterparts has been around since 2011 but I stumbled across their music last year around this time and their album You’re Not You Anymore quickly became not only my favorite album of 2017 by one of my favorites ever. Currently the only album I own on vinyl.

Oceans Ate Alaska is one of those weird “core” bands that blew me away with how not only crushing and technical they can be, but also how melodic and heartfelt they can be as well. A better example of a melodic track from this album is called Hansha.

Shai Hulud is a melodic hardcore staple, has been since the early to mid 90s. This song is from the era where Geert Van Der Velde was their vocalist, though their original vocalist is Chad Gilbert, better known as the guitarist for New Found Glory and married to Hayley Williams of Paramore fame.

Pretty sick tech metal from Germany (I think?). Saw them live in 2004 and it was a phenomenal show.

Gothenburg Metal.

Give me your suggestions.

Mexicans managed to make IMO a most horrifying album of brutal death/grindcore.

A lot of what I'm about to post is in the speedcore/breakcore genre but with a metal influence. So it's "heavy," but technical and experimental.
Igorrr is a good guy to get into, since he's pushed the genre so far with a very French "barque" sound that comprises of jazz improvisation, classical strings, death metal riffs, and breakcore that its a unique expression all on its own.
On the topic of breakcore, I might as well drop some "proto-Breakcore," when drum n bass was getting harder and acid, jungle and techno scenes were producing harder music.
This last one is a real good combo of Japanese death metal riffs, speedcore vibes, and dubstep basslines for those heavy drops that kick in. Only a few times have I heard dubstep and speedcore mixed but whenever I've heard it it's like ADHD for my ears.

How heavy we talking. I mean, I love me some metal like Accept, but I don't know if that counts as heavy enough now with all the death metal and whatnot.

@OdoIslander - good shout on igorrrr. I've played pinball with the woman who sings for them after a gig. Was a weird but entertainingly memorable experience.

The Algorithm is fucking awesome.

The Ocean does a really nice chunky sound, too:

I'm really enjoying Batushka - sort of a Russian orthodox liturgical/death metal hybrid. It works remarkably well.

Anup Sastry's 'Titan' is heavy as all fuck. Definitely improved by either decent headphones or big speakers.

Gojira's 'The gift of guilt' ranks pretty highly too, IMO.

Of late I've been looking for longer-form proggier stuff. The Ocean did a collaborative EP with a band called Mono, and produced this track that I absolutely adore:
