Because "losing it" it's not expected of them.

Working in tech support showed me repeatedly how men and women expressed anger:

Men are upfront about being mad and why they're mad and most times if I just listened and acknowledged them, they'd calm down, apologize and let me help fix their shit.

Women hold it in, and since I couldn't see their face I could only go off of tone. They would act all nice and polite for the majority of the interaction, then I just had to say one little thing that they didn't like and they would fucking flip. I have never had more curses and insults flung towards me than by housewives who absolutely refused to believe that the reason they can't get a wifi signal on any of their devices is because their router is at the bottom of their fucking cellar.

Edit: I will say though, looking back at it, I'm honestly surprised nothing was done about her little attempted shiving. Most women I know stew a bit and get all passive aggressive before later letting out the anger in some other way, usually venting to a close friend or boyfriend. When I was younger, I had anger issues and would get so mad I couldn't concentrate or calm down unless I could do something physical to feel better, like slamming a door really hard.

In my experience, I think male and female anger are about equally scary, but it depends on how the person expresses themselves. If they throw a chair or start punching a wall, I'm gonna get concerned and shrink back. Most people just yell a bunch and go stew in it or go get a drink.
