What are your guys' thoughts? I'm pretty excited for this movie. It's produced by the same guy who produced The VVitch which I enjoyed.

The little 'girl' from this reminds me of the boy who played young Michael Meyers from the 2007 "Halloween" remake.
I really want to see Hereditary this weekend. I hope the hype surrounding this movie is real.
My sister and I are both hyped, and we're probably gonna see it when we're not so busy.

I try to avoid watching horror movie trailers, as they tend to spoil the best moments, but this one seems great. The reception is enthusiastic and claims that the movie avoids cheap jumpscares clichés. I'm looking forward to watching it, but I'm not completely convinced after reading that the producers also made Split, which was (in my humble opinion) somewhat disappointing.
I'm considering to watch this at the cinemas to see if it's worth the hype, but tbh the trailers haven't managed to impress me greatly, could be because I'm picky though
I'm on the fence for this one to be honest given my viewing of recent critically acclaimed horror movies. I felt A Quiet Place and It Comes at Night were a bit overhyped. I am also pondering whether or not to see it in theaters, which could include other patrons making noise at anything remotely scary or wait for home release.
I was hyped for this movie since I saw the trailer four months ago and was pretty much counting down the days to release. Saw it last night. The movie is hypnotic and truly terrifying for a place where horror movies don't usually go. Maybe I got lucky but the turn out was pretty good and the audience was really respectful. People weren't eating loudly or talking at all. At one point I realized I was leaning forward, with my hand on my face, so immersed in it, just taken over by tension, looked over and a guy a few seats away was doing the same thing. It's not what the trailer looks like. Go into it blind because it's not what you expect from a horror movie, but somehow plays on a human insecurity with sound and incredible dialogue. If you want a slow-roasted no-bullshit, no-hollywood real horror movie with no jump scares just bonafide stress and misery go see Hereditary. A few friends of mine want to see it next week and I thought it was so good I don't even think I wanna go again because I don't wanna try to recreate the "impact" too soon.
For me it's one of the best horror movies I've ever seen. I don't wanna say it's like the greatest thing in the world because there's a demographic out there that would hate it and I can understand why. The trailer is misleading and it's not a run-of-the-mill scary story. Personally, I think the hype was justified but I can't speak for everyone. I'll just say I would be mindful of going to an early show because it's absolutely a movie you wanna be immersed in and not hear whispering or loud eating because that will ruin it completely.

This is the first time in a long while that I've felt absolutely shell-shocked walking out of a theater. This isn't so much "The scariest film of the year" as much as it is "the most emotionally harrowing, feel-bad film of the year". While it certainly isn't lacking in scares, I'm warning you that because it's an A24 horror movie, it's gonna be considerably slower than most, but immensely rewarding if you stick with it. I was really absorbed by the family drama, absorbing cinematography and excellent, almost Lynchian sound design before all hell broke loose. And on top of that, the film acts as a great companion piece to

The Witch. Beyond the fact that they're both put out by A24 (Pretty much the current gods of indie cinema atm), they shared very similar story beats, character moments, tone and even endings.

The whole point is the family is cursed... Cursed by a string of genetic mental illness, but also by the fact a demon knows this and thats why they target this blood line... These people are tortured by mental illness and tragedy.. seemingly like it's a coincidence.. but if you look through the movie you see a ton of clues a malicious force is using them... not unlike lolcows, who don't understand their autism.
I saw it this weekend, though I thought it was good, it was definitely a victim of hype for me - though Toni Collette acts her ass off in this
Just got back from seeing it. Wow, I think that’s the first time a movie has disturbed me so much. Super eerie.
The shot of Charlie’s severed head literally made my jaw drop and I felt so bad for Peter, holy fuck. The cult twist at the end kinda put a damper on things but overall I really enjoyed it.

I went into it blind, didn’t watch any trailers or read any specifics, literally had no idea what the movie was going to be about. I’m glad I didn’t because any foreknowlege might have softened the impact. This was the first movie to give me nightmares after watching it in my adult life. I’m still processing it.
