Heroes of Might and Magic III -

I downloaded it and tried playing the Campaign Mode but got raped by the AI.
Is there anyone playing it right now or remember some stuff that would greatly help a low IQ beginner?
While playing I encountered some Artifacts that weren't able to be gotten, I don't know the reason.

Anyway... thanks.

That was a real good game. I haven't played it in 15 years though. I recommend the random maps.

Don't mix troops from different regions, it lowers their morale when fighting with foreigners.

Always aim to max out your morale and luck. Morale grants extra turns to units and luck grants critical strikes. Both can decidedly overwhelm an enemy.

If you're not using a hero with magic spells, get skills that directly boost your troops.

When the ranged unit's attack pointer, the arrow, is snapped in the middle, it means they're not close enough to do their maximum damage. Either hold fire until the enemy moves closer or move the ranged unit. Never let melee units close the gap on ranged units, they will be unable to fire when in melee range.

Hover over melee enemy units to see how far they can attack on their turn. Position your own units so that they're just outside their reach so that you get the first strike when you close the gap.

If you're about to lose a fight against an enemy hero, flee. Your hero will lose their artifacts if they are cut down, but will carry them with them when they escape so you can rehire them with the artifacts intact. The other option, surrender, will let the remainder of your troops to walk away unharmed as well, but costs money per every unit.

You will lose many times to enemies you don't recognize. You will have to memorize the bestiary or use a wiki while playing to judge for yourself when to engage with overworld enemies. Nice rule of thumb: If they're dragons, and the indicator is more than just "Few", please reconsider.

Hold down right mouse button for everything everywhere on the map.

Fuck the Titans.

I play this at least once a week to this very day, dear kiwi. The key is to always build that super-hero who can crush everything in their path as quickly as possible then hire your runner heroes to get those new troops to the front as quick as you can every week of turns. Leadership/Logistics/Pathfinding are must haves for a potential super-hero usually. The ideal class of your super-hero is usually a function of the size of the map, small maps favor Barbarian/Witches, medium favor Knights/Heretics, large favor Necromancers/Elementalists, extra large favor Warlocks/Wizards for their high end advantages in armies. If you're not consistently pressing the initiative forward against your opponents, you're probably not doing it right usually in this game so spare no quarter and let nobody get past your super-hero to cause trouble behind the front lines if you can avoid it.

Your hero movement on the map is affected by the troop with the lowest speed in your army.

Your main hero should stay strictly on the road and fight, have someone running behind him to pickup the resource, don't waste your main hero movement on that.

Do yourself a favor and don't play inferno.

Magic is generally better than Might, especially late-game where everyone has spells.

Necropolis and Conflux are the strongest, Inferno, Fortress and Stronghold are the weakest.

I still like Fortress for gnolls.

I remember conflux being pretty crap towards the higher end troops. Did I miss a patch or something? Great mage guild though.

Titans are the shit, but everything below them is just plain shit.

Now I really want to play this again. Fuck.
