I wonder how many people here have hidden talents for things but they never found out. Maybe I could actually be really good at DDR or woodworking or some shit if I really tried. I doubt it but it's fun to think about.

Keep trying till you find that one obscured thing you're actually good at. Who knows, you might be good at soap carving or butterfly watching.

The idea of hidden talent always sounded to me like cope. At best there might be one field you are decent at without requiring a lot of effort to cultivate.
It's better to just train in whatever thing you want to get good at.
it's not about not putting in effort. it's that some people just naturally get better at some things than others.

What if I know how to do lots of things, but not an expert in anything? Can I make some bank on the mediocre skills I have?

I never knew how good I was with a staff until I trained my skill with it.

I am not a shaolin but I can do some cool tricks, kicks and spinning attacks with a staff

I dunno, don't hold your breath. Anyone with a reasonable understanding of their limits can make some fairly educated guesses as to what they're liekly to be good at even if they've never tried. Those stories of people seeming to find some talent out of nowhere are often exaggerated; eith shorting the amount of time the person expressed interest in it before getting good or overlooking the amount of time they spent actually practicing and getting good at something (natural talent is often exaggerated).

Schwarzenegger is a great man. You are not. You have no hidden talents. Nobody does.

At best we have uncultivated potential. But unless you have the drive or motivation to turn an aptitude into a worthwhile skill, it is wasted potential.

And if you're above 21 you already know if you have that kind of drive or not.

Welcome to the human condition.
