It's like the first picture is trying to imitate Rumiko Takahashi and the second one is trying to imitate Leiji Matsumoto.
Also, is the pink-haired one blackwashed in the first picture or whitewashed in the second one? Ah, whatever. This show is so woke we'll hear nothing of it.
They're trying to replicate the '80s hair but there's literally no volume to the hair because there's no signs there's actual strands of hair. It's just flat coloring reminiscent of the 2000s tween years, but even the 2000s had some concept of what hair should look like.
I thought of Ranma 1/2 in the first image, yeah, and that's what I'm thinking of in terms of the hair.
Isn't this backstory just gypped from RWBY?

It's pointless now but I think the girls could've benefited from having the eybrows cartoonishly over their hair and not realistically underneath it. Eyebrows provide 50%-80% of facial expressions. With bangs overtaking that much of their faces and not cheating on the eyebrows, I believe we'll see some interesting facial expressionswhen if this thing comes out.

I'll bet the artist did that because of the "eyebrows under the hair" rule. The bangs had to look higher to show the pink girl's sad expression. Bitches have more hair than a fucking Jem character.

Oh yeah, the Rumiko Takahashi influence is definitely there with the puni-chibi style she's famous for (even though that was mostly thanks to the anime adaptations, but whatever). Too bad that the poses are uninspired and boring to look at.
