I would like to discuss hikikomori and share images of their setups. They so remind me of Chris sometimes, but I figured it isn't directly Chris related. Mods, if you feel this is more appropriate elsewhere, feel free to move this thread.

First off, this site doesn't hotlink, but there's a lot of them here.

One of my closest friends has a typical '90s teenager room. It's not a mess, but it's really cramped because of all the memorabilia he has in there. Old computers, betamax players, cups from out of state restaurants, collectors items he found at Goodwill, workout equipment, and despite the fact that he doesn't share a room with his sister anymore, he still has one of those US military surplus bunk beds (almost exactly the same as the one we had on our ranch). The thing is that he's a really cool, funny, and outgoing guy who's had a girlfriend for 3 years, and the only bump in their relationship was when she thought he got her pregnant. Pretty sure at that point, it's okay to have a disorganized room (albeit, he doesn't have rotting food or feces in there).

I am hikiko (you don't have to have no job or literally EVER leave the house to qualify). It is very pleasant and relaxing to mentally retreat to the 90s and forget all the current happenings in the world.

There was an experiment ages ago called Mouse City or something (either mice or rats), where a bunch of mice were given basically the equivalent of utopia. They had constant access to food and water at will and little home things.

After a while the city became overpopulated, the mice became docile, and many mice did not socialise or leave their """apartments""" except for food or water or w.e.

00:00:47 – 00:00:52
Dr. Calhoun explains what the overcrowding did to Mouse City’s inhabitants.

00:00:52 – 00:00:59
[Dr. Calhoun:] The last thousand animals born never learned to develop the social behaviors.

00:00:59 – 00:01:04
They never learned to be aggressive, which is necessary in defense of home sites.

00:01:04 – 00:01:09
They never learned to court; there was no mating.

00:01:09 – 00:01:17
Being no mating, there were no progeny and the older animals uhh, whose behavior

00:01:17 – 00:01:23
is already becoming disrupted, they eventually reach to, an age too old to reproduce.

00:01:23 – 00:01:31
And so it was all left up to these last thousand or so, who we call the beautiful ones,

00:01:31 – 00:01:38
because, not engaging in any stressful activity and only paying attention to themselves,

00:01:38 – 00:01:43
they groomed themselves well so they look uh, very fine specimen.

00:01:43 – 00:01:50
But from that point on, which was about the time that you were here two and a half years ago,

00:01:50 – 00:01:55
this reproduction totally ceased and the animals have just aged and died.

You talking about this?
I wouldn't call that a utopia.
