Wanasa wanasa Khalasna Diraasa (loosely translated to "hip hip hooray we finished studying today") was a well known meme in the Arab Gulf countries first made known by Kuwaiti keek user Talal Sam, as a video just to fuck around with on the subject of studying in high school.
As a result of this, many parodies and reactions were made of this video, most of them in mockery.
People he knew and strangers alike voiced their disapproval and bullied him even in his school, and he became famous for all the wrong reasons despite making different content
Today, he has lost plenty of weight, grown a beard, and has made a video last year stating that what he did was a mistake and was fucking around as a result of being younger and inexperienced back then. It seems he has a brighter future now.

I don't understand, why did they react to it so strongly? Is it offensive in some way?
They thought he was acting autistic and exceptional, and basically made a fool of himself.
Same reason why lolcows have gotten backlash from other people.

Wow if they think THAT is bad someone really ought to invite them over here.

This is the same place where people can get arrested for dancing on video?
You won't get arrested for dancing on video LOL
People dance in weddings all the time.
I'd say some of the people are overreacting slightly.
In the third video with the parodies, since it's a compilation, if you see the third clip with the Saudi man whose face is draped in the keffiyeh and the fourth one with the girl, you'd notice that the tone isn't of mockery, but enjoyment (the third clip BTW happens to be my favorite since he gets in trouble doing the parody)

I mentioned the dancing thing because I've heard a few news stories about that, like this one from a few years ago:

Maybe it's different because they were dancing to a popular Western song and not traditional dance? I'm not really that up-to-date with what goes on over there, but I've heard enough to know that nothing really surprises me anymore.

Oh, Iran? Not a surprise.
Ever since the Ayatollah's been running the country it basically became "no fun allowed". Iran was a lot more liberal when Mohammad Reza Shah was in charge.
