What do you think is Chris's biggest problem, the root cause of his failtastic plunge towards entropy?
I'd say it's plain old stupidity. If he was somewhat intelligent, or even highly intelligent, he could have found ways to work around his problems. He could have devised ways to earn money without too much work or social interaction (maybe some sort of donation-based web project like some webcomic artists do). Given some intellect, he could have figured out how the real world works and played the rules to his advantage. I think the reason he, in reality, crashes and burns is basically a lack of learning ability (though it could be argued that given enough diligence he could have overcome this problem, so the root cause would be laziness).
