We've discussed in detail on other threads how tumblr took the fringe views held by a radical minority of sociologists and feminists in regards to race and gender and fashioned from the dregs of academia the privilege economy and logic defying mental gymnastics to justify blatant racism and sexism.

What we haven't talked about quite so much is what they do with the more senior social science that is history.

As anyone who studies history can tell you watching for confirmation bias is something every good historian struggles with, a good historian actively tries to exclude their own bias and determine the truth of the past from the surviving evidence. However there has always been a certain strain of unscrupulous or downright dishonest academics who deliberately conform to a certain bias as they know it will secure them funding/sell books. These people have in the past come from all across the political spectrum and their works used to justify all sorts of myriad claims.

I mention this because while still fringe these people have a reasonably large internet and literacy footprint compared to the radical left that infected tumblr. Consequently our little psuedo marxist tumblrinas find plenty of material on the web proving that actually black people invented everything and white people have never accomplished anything while simultaneously controlling the world and being the root of all the worlds problems.

A typical example of conformation bias compounded by tumblr racism and lack of critical skills is reading any mention of people as 'dark' as meaning black- because all non whites are the same dontcha know. Completely ignoring the context and that europeans have been referring to those among them with black hair as 'dark' for centuries.

The tumblrites never question or examine a source that agrees with them; they just happily skim read it and then accept what they've remembered (often badly) as gospel truth. The insecurity and implied racism behind that attitude is hilarious. the posts are typically quite long so ill copy paste a few below and link to archives rather than screencapping:

Isn't it ironic, that black ppl created the sciences that make the modern world possible. But are trapped by the wealth of knowledge that we gave europeans that they now use to INSLAVE us?!?

Indus Kush Civilization

On March 3, 2000, historian Runoko Rashidi gave a lecture in Honolulu, Hawaii, about the presence of Black people in ancient and modern India. He stated that the face of India changed around 2000 B.C. when nomadic people Indo-Europeans or Aryans traveled to the Innis Valley and other fertile locations in southern India.

Prior to the invasion, Blacks in India built rich and advanced civilizations. Author Wayne Chandler recanted his amazing discoveries about Blacks in ancient India in his book “African Presence in Early Asia.” The remarkable cities of Harrappa and Mohenjo-daro are only two of the many cities built by Black people. These cities cover large regions of northern India and modern-day Pakistan.

Ancient Mexico

The Olmecs were an ancient civilization in the Americas. Researchers such as Rashidi, Ivan Van Sertima and Alexander Von Wuthenau have discovered and shared evidence showing that the original inhabitants of Mexico were of African descent. The Olmecs were no different from people found in the Mende regions of West Africa.

Best known for carving the colossal stone heads that date back to 1100 B.C., more evidence of their existence before European explorers has been found. The Olmecs built pyramid-like structures made of mud in Mexico. They were also very artistic and created terracotta art that displayed common activities like pottery-making and wrestling. To add to their achievements, the Olmec people developed a calendar system around 3100 B.C.

Shang Dynasty of Ancient China

In a genetic study published in the “Proceedings of the National Academy of Science Genetic,” researchers found evidence showing the first African arrived in China about 60,000 years ago. Researcher and population geneticist Li Jin states, “Our work shows that modern humans first came to southeast Asia and then moved later to northern China. This supports the idea that modern humans originated in Africa.”

A 2009 published essay from the “Light Words from the Dark Continent; A Collection of Essays,” by Nibs Ra and Manu Amun, offers insight to early Chinese civilizations. It states that the first documented governance in China was headed by the Shang or Chiang dynasty in 1500-1000 B.C. King T’ang or Ta, founder of the Shang dynasty, was of African descent. The Shang were also called Nakhi, which literally means “Black” (Na) and “Man” (khi). King T’ang and the Shang dynasty were responsible for unifying China to form their first civilization.

Ancient Mesopotamia

Many scholars have concluded that the founders of the first Mesopotamian civilization were Black Sumerians. Mesopotamia was the Biblical land of Shinar (Sumer), which sprung up around 3000 B.C.

After deciphering the cuneiform script and researching ancient Mesopotamia for many years Henry Rawlinson (1810-1895) discovered that the founders of the civilization were of Kushite (Cushite) origin. He made it clear that the Semitic speakers of Akkad and the non-Semitic speakers of Sumer were both Black people who called themselves sag-gig-ga or “Black Heads.”

John Baldwin wrote in his book “PreHistoric Nations” (1869): “The early colonists of Babylonia were of the same race as the inhabitants of the Upper Nile.”

This was corroborated by other scholars including, Chandra Chakaberty, who asserted in his book “A Study in Hindu Social Polity” that “based on the statuaries and steles of Babylonia, the Sumerians were “of dark complexion (chocolate colour), short stature, but of sturdy frame, oval face, stout nose, straight hair, full head; they typically resembled the Dravidians, not only in cranium, but almost in all the details.”

History of the word Nigger(a,a's)

Amazing how good words turn into bad. Tha’s the REAL harm of an Eurocentric mind set- Which means one way thinking. **smile** My goal is to have an more Afrocentric mind set- Which simply means being able to gain/see in an broader sense.

I’m accustomed to going to the origins of such words and comprehend how such words transform.

NIGGER

__________________________________________________ __________________________________

THE WORD „N-G-R” MEANS „GOD” IN ANCIENT EGYPTIAN

The father of the „n” word was the word used by the ancient Egyptians for „God.” That word was „N-g-r” and as one can see, there are no vowels in this word. In the ancient African and even the present African languages (the Afro-Asiatic linguistic family) vowels such as „a, e, i, o, u” are not found in many translations, particularly of ancient Hebrew and Egyptian languages.

In the translation of ancient Egyptian and Hebrew (which is heavily influenced by Egyptian), one will not always find vowels, therefore, very few people will realize that the word for God, which is „N-g-r” pronounced „en-ger” was the Egyptian word for God. In fact, the Egyptian word for „nature,” is also the word used for God. That word is „ntyr,” (pronounced net-jer. „Now prounce the word” nigg.. „and the word” net-jer,“ and one sees the clear connection.

(Remember the above in red. As it’s useful as you study Egyptian culture practices as it relates to Gods.)

MANY AFRICAN WORDS DENOTING PEOPLE OR IMPORTANT PEOPLE STARTS WITH „N”

In many African languages particularly the Niger-Congo language family. Words that connects with people, Gods, and groups begin with „n” and that word is always the first word. For instance, the word „Nkosi” in Xhosa is „God.” The word „Ndaba,” in another South African language is „counsil” (or gathering of elders). Many common names also begin with „N”.

WORDS OF AFRICAN ORIGINS THAT CAME FROM THE ORIGINAL WORD, „N-G-R” (PROUNOUNCED EN-JER)

N-g-r (Egyptian;pronounced en-jer) = God
N-t-y-r (Egypt; pronounced net-ger) = God, Devine
Negash (Ethiopia; ne-gash) = King
Negus (Ethiopia; ne-goos) = Emperor
Nkosi (Xhosa; en-kosi) = God
Ndaba (Zulu; en-daba) = Counsil/Officials,
Naga (East Indian, Nubian = People
Nugarmarta (West African = People (See the writings of Ibn Buttata’s journey to West Africa)

HOW THE N BECAME CORRUPTED

The Romans are probably the first Europeans to misrepresent the word for God, which was „N-g-r”
About the early part of the First Century, Romans tried to invade Ethiopia. (see BLACK HISTORY CHARThttp://community.webtv.net/nubianem/…ldnubianempire or go tohttp://community.webtv.net/paulnubiaempire for a list of Nubian Pharaohs and Queens.

The Romans who were speakers of Latin always knew of Blacks, there were Blacks in Rome, Italy had an ancient Black presence long before the Latins migrated from Central Asia and North Eastern Europe during the ‘Aryan’ migrations. In fact, the Latin ethnic groups is still in existance in the northern part of Italy even today. This part of Italy still grips about Hannibal’s invasion which happened about two thousand two hundred years ago!!!

The Romans had a name for Blacks, it was „Niger” and it meant Black or people of African origins. Thus, Septimus Niger would have meant, Septimus the Negro. Yet, how did the Romans connect the word „Niger” to Black.

In ancient times, Blacks were worshipped as Gods. The Gods of Greece came from Egypt. The worship of the Black Madonna is connected with the worship of Isis, the Egyptian Goddes. Moreover, Blacks in Egypt called their Pharaohs „En-ger” or „N-g-r” he was literally referred to as „THE GOD.”

It is very possible that when the Romans tried to invade Nubia, they asked for the name of the God and the term „N-g-r” was probably used in place of „leader” or „king”. In Angola, the same also happened during the 1600’s when the word „N-gola” which means „King” (notice the „N” and the „g” in this word as well), came to be "Angola,’ the name of a kingdom in south western Africa.
(Read more on Nubian, Egyptian, West African and ancient American trade and commercial connections in ancient times; see the book, „Susu Economics: The History of Pan-African Trade, Commerce, Money and Wealth,” published by 1stBooks Library,www.1stbooks.com also seewww.barnesandnoble.com

WHERE DID THE ROMANS FIRST HEAR THE ORIGINAL MEANING OF THE „N” WORD.

A Roman general invading Nubia from Egypt would probably have used the Egyptian term for Pharaoh, which was „N-g-r” (God). This term then was used to refer to all Blacks and as time went by, the word N-g-r became Niger. In Fact, the Romans also classified their Emperors as „Gods,” to follow the Egyptian style. Moreover, as the History Channel poointed out, „Rome was a collection of villages before the Egyptians built it up.”(paraphrased).
The word „em-peror” sounds very close to the word „en-jer.” That is not a coincidental connection.

THE WORD „N-G-R” (EN-JER) AFTER IT WAS CORRUPTED BY THE EUROPEANS

Niger = (Latin or Black/African pronounced „ni-ger.”)

Nero = Italian for Black
Negre = French for Black
Negro = Spanish for Black
The English called Blacks „Moore” or „Black-a-Moore” before they began using the word
„Negro” to refer to Blacks. FROM THAT WORD CAME THE RACIAL EPITHET, „NIGG..”

In like manner, the racist term for Japanese the mutilation of the word to shorten it into an epithet. Furthermore, the original name for Japan is the Chinese „Ni-Han.” Now here is another great mystry that people who study the Niger-Congo linguistic family would quickly notice. EVEN THE WORD „Ni” in the Chinese „Ni-Han,” has and ancient African connection. In fact, as Clyde Walters points out, The Chinese language is directly related to the Niger-Congo language which has its roots in the Cameroon region of Africa. In fact, there are thousands of African words from Cameroon to Kenya that have both prefixes and suffixes that are identical to both Chinese and Japanese languages (see also African Presence in Early Asia, by Ivan Van Sertima; Transaction Publishers)

In the Case of „Ni-Han” which may mean „rising sun,” there is also a sacred meaning that is found in the word „n-ger,” or „ne-gro.” Yet, the racist terms „nip,” and „nigg…” or „jap,” used by racists were and are being used without any understanding of their original meanings. Only hatred and envy comes out of the mouths of those who use racial epithets in their attempt to insult and denegrade others. However, it is up to us to study our history and make these racist words impotent, while at the same time, understanding their original meaning.

Connection with the prefix „ni” with sacred and life:

Ni'le = The Nile River, Life to the Egyptians

Ni-ger = River in West Africa
Niger = Nation in West Africa
Nigeria = Nation in West Africa

Nago = Racist term used by some SE Asians to refer to Black Melanesians of Africoid origins

Nago-Mina = African nationality in Nigeria

Naghual = Aztec word for Shaman or priest. The first Olmec Shamans in Mexico came from Nigeria and elsewhere in West Africa (see Black Civilizations of Americahttp://community.webtv.net/paulnubiaempire

Spirit Science Lesson 12: The Human History Story

And we are back to Spirit Science for the Amazing conclusion of Season 1. As we will see in this 5 part episode, the story of Human History is not what we know. Modern society tells us that we just evolved from monkeys thousands of years ago and now here we are. But if our evolution was so natural, why is everything so broken and screwed up? Through communication with Astral Entities, along with many ancient texts across all religions, as well as many other sources, we have begun to see our history is not what we know. This 5 part episode is the Human History story according to the Atlantean being known as Thoth. Now, were not saying “THIS” is what happened in our history. This is only Thoth’s perception of it. That may even lead us to ask, who is Thoth…?

Below I have included the 5 part episode in it’s full version as well as how they originally aired (in 5 parts). Enjoy and we will talk again soon!

Ancient Aliens

So for those of you who don’t fully believe the biblical story of Adam and Eve, then the question becomes, where did we actually come from and why is there evidence that humans or Intelligent Beings of some kind have been around for a lot longer then 5000 years (like most Biblical Books state). I personally have always believed I’m from the stars, and for you humans you need some awakening to explain questions that you know you’ve always had, you were just to afraid to ask them, well this show will probably answer any of them that had to do with our ancient past. Below I have linked Ancient Aliens Season 3 Episode 16 which talks about Man’s origins. Remember, no one is saying “this is exactly how it happened” but it does give you something to think about.

I just find it absolutely funny that someone would want to talk about the Olmecs while showing a picture of what appears to be the one image in elementary school social studies textbooks that talks about the Nubians.

from wikipedia on one of the authors cited:
Ivan Gladstone Van Sertima (26 January 1935 – 25 May 2009) was a Guyanese-born associate professor of Africana Studies at Rutgers University in the United States.[1]

He was best known for his Olmec alternative origin speculations, a brand of pre-Columbian contact theory, which he proposed in his book They Came Before Columbus (1976). While his Olmec theory has "spread widely in African American community, both lay and scholarly", it was mostly ignored in Mesoamericanist scholarship, or else dismissed as Afrocentric pseudohistory to the effect of "robbing native American cultures".[n 1]

and you can do that with almost every piece of 'evidence' they bring up. The people who spread it are either willfully misrepresenting or so willing to just listen and believe that they verge on retardation.

Except this is complete bullshit.

I looked it up again to make sure, but this was just an assumption made out of ignorance. DNA has since proven it incorrect. If you know anything about Greek pottery, red and black figure pottery were common throughout the region and were artistic tropes that did not reflect the skin of the people depicted, but the color of readily available pigments. Otherwise, we would have to conclude bright red people lived in ancient Greece.

So I'm not even going to look at the rest of that when it started out with blatant nonsense.

I mean, did they do ANY research? I haven't looked into it much myself, beyond what I learned in 7th grade Latin, but I would be astonished if there wasn't a primary source detailing the different styles and techniques used in ancient Greek and Roman pottery. Those guys documented everything.
they read the blogs and books of hack professors nearly all of whom practice 'african studies' rather than history. like 'women's studies' its become an echo chamber that retards the peer review process and prevents proper criticism by the wider crop of historians.

here's a fantastic amount of bullshit:
wingsandtails:

An African king named Gormund ruled Ireland during the Anglo-Saxon period in England reports the medieval historian Geoffrey of Monmouth.

Halfdan the Black was the first Africoid king to unite Norway.

When the British Isles were invaded by the Vikings some of these Norse raiders were Africoid. In fact, different varieties of ‘Viking’ Africans lived in Scandinavia during the middle ages and are frequently mentioned in Viking sagas.

There were Black Huns! The dictionary describes the Huns as “a fierce barbaric race of Asiatic nomads who led by Attila, ravaged Europe I the 4th and 5th centuries A.D.” The Gothic writer Jordannes described their infamous leader, Attila the Hun as having “a flat nose and swarthy complexion.” He describes the types of Huns he had seen as “of dark complexion, almost black… broad shoulder, flat noses and small eyres.”

The African Moors dominated southwest Europe during the
Middle Ages for 700 years: 711-1492 A.D. African Moors ruling southwest Europe centuries, darkened whites in this area, especially Portal, which was “the first example of a Negrito (African) republic in Europe?”

Moors ruling Scotland in the 10th century mixed with whites until the black skin color disappeared.

Black Celts (Silures) & Black Vikings vexed with the Scandinavia people. A prominent Viking of the eleventh century was Thorhall, who was aboard the ship that carried the early Vikings to the shores of North America. Thorhall was “the huntsman in summer and in winter the steward of Eric the Red. He was a large man and strong, black, and like a giant, silent, and foul-mouthed in his speech, and always egged on Eric to the worst; he was a bad Christian.”

Another Viking, more notable than Thorhall, was Earl Thorfinn, “the most distinguished of all the earls in the Islands.” Thorfinn ruled over nine earldoms in Scotland and Ireland, and died at the age of seventy-five. His widow married the king of Scotland. Thorfinn was described as “one of the largest men in point of stature, and ugly, sharp featured, and somewhat tawny, and the most martial looking man. It has been related that he was the foremost of all his men.”

The black blood type is common even in Nordic Europe where intermixing has been happening since antiquity.

Black slavery lasted in England for about 400 years (1440-1834), during which time much intermixing occurred.

I'm not going to debunk all those claims as they all fall on the same issue so dealing with one shows the flaw in the others- from the post above:
Halfdan the Black was the first Africoid king to unite Norway.
from the saga of hafdan the black:

Halfdan grew up there, and soon became stout and
strong; and, by reason of his black hair, was called Halfdan the
Black

You missed the most obvious flaw: If Halfdan was really the leader of a group of black people, there's no way his followers would have called him 'Halfdan the Black', because his blackness wouldn't have been in any way remarkable or notable.

Also, I admit my knowledge of African history is woefully lacking, but I do seem to recall reading a bit about a couple of great African Empires built and ruled by black cultures. Wasn't the Mali Empire kind of a big deal? If these tumblristas really cared about African history and educating people about it, there's loads of great ancient African societies they could be sperging about.

Of course, that would assume they actually care.

EDIT: And, of course, none of that will get around the fact that, due to great interest and success in sea travel, and, later, industrialization, European imperial ambitions managed to subjugate most of Africa. It's unfortunate, but it's also true.

absolutely, but that wouldn't apply to groups described as dark or black like certain east coast pictish tribes. The point is that most of these claims of historic blackness come from misreading references to hair as references to skin.

I'll say it again; for a group of people who are very upset that native culture is being shit all over, they sure are eager to shit all over native cultures.

Hello! I'm doing research for a potential story set in Anglo-Saxon England. I'm featuring queer characters, characters with physical disabilities, characters with mental illnesses, and ethnically I'm including Anglo-Saxons, Celts, and Scandinavians, but I know there were plenty of PoC and I want to include them; however, I'm (unsurprisingly) having trouble finding information. I was wondering if you had any resources about PoC in England specific to the Anglo-Saxon period. Thank you! ^_^

the answer they got was pretty reasonable but the question makes my head twirl!

purely off the top of my head i think the ruler of mali was one of the richest men in the world for a bit- but as you say knowing that would imply they actually cared about black culture and weren't engaged in some bizarre attempt to erase and belittle white people. its like a really retarded counter imperialism.

Yes.

If you wanted to "revise" history more accurately to reflect the prominence of a lot of now virtually forgotten African empires, that would actually be accurate and there would be a lot of history to have genuine pride in.

It's a fact that a lot of genuine African history that actually connects with Western history doesn't get covered, whether due to conscious or accidental bias. That should be fixed.

Instead, though, these morons want to just make shit up. It's embarrassing.

I'm surprised they didn't mention how nearly all the gods were rapists, even the black/disabled/pansexual ones. And that a lot of the goddesses were guilty of massive victim blaming. (Oh, my husband raped you? Let me horribly curse you and destroy your life.) And that Athena was viewed as "safe" because she was a virgin, and wouldn't have any children that might eventually take over from their fathers. And that Greek mythology is, overall, nearly as sexist as Holden is.

There's a wanted poster for Charles II when he was on the run from the Commonwealth after the battle of Worcester that describes him as a "tall, black man". I'm surprised no SJW revisionist has picked up on it yet.

I've said this before, but I maintain this is the most damning criticism of the whole 'Black Athena' hypothesis - that it is basically a retread of the standard Eurocentric 19th century whig history narrative, except everybody is supposedly black.

There is ample evidence in actual history to contradict the hypothesis of European progress/African primitivism, but most of the people pushing this history are ignorant of African history and have no desire to correct that, so they'd rather talk about black Beethoven or black vikings than Mansa Musa or the Sultanate of Agadez.

If Persephone was black, either Zeus or Demeter would have to be black. Has to be Demeter, though, because black people are always perfect and so Zeus couldn't be a black racist. /sneed

@vitriol I am curious as to your assessment of medievalpoc, a Tumblr that has been the source of a lot of controversy for their views on race as it applies to history. I'm not a historian, but I've seen a lot of arguing over the accuracy of the blog, with a lot of critics claiming the blog runner clearly has an agenda and a very America-centric view on race. A lot of content on the blog comes off as extremely fishy.

EDIT: sniped by @AveraDiane dang.

@Meowthkip Medievalpoc is a very good example of one of the main flaws of the SJW approach to race, which is that it's an explicitly American conceptualisation of race. Having said that Medievalpoc's central hypothesis, that there were non-white people in medieval Europe, is correct, but the blog does itself no favours in either trying to prove that hypothesis or in drawing further conclusions from its proof.

Edit: Here's a good takedown of medievalpoc, from a left-wing perspective, written by a black guy. If you can't be bothered reading it, it explicitly comes down to the fact that the medievalpoc writer is using contemporary American definitions of race to analysis European images and history, and sees no problem with that.

Edit2: Here is medievalpoc's response to a similarly themed criticism. She essentially admits that she is only interested in European history as it relates to the modern American conversation about race.
