Hiveswap - 2.5 Million dollars at work. Not quite better than nothing.

  • Intermittent Denial of Service attack is causing downtime. Looks like a kiddie 5 min rental. Waiting on a response from upstream.

So youtube hasn't stopped recommending me this trailer for this "HiveSwap" game or whatever for the past few hours or so. As it turns out it's the Finalized name for the "Homestuck game" Yes, that homestuck.
I Figured I'd make a thread since there doesn't seem to be one for it yet.

Weirdly, Upon further research I discovered some shit went down involving this game and I completely missed it involving a shitstorm with the devs running off with nearly half the cash to make a port of king's quest or something.

The original trailer has seemingly been wiped from the entirety of youtube because all I can find is the shortened version that cuts off at the moment before they pull down the curtain to reveal the portal machine from don't starve. (Okay it's not the portal machine from don't starve but it sure as hell looked similar to it.)

And this is the trailer for what the game currently looks like.

Wow, look how far they've come.
Share thoughts below I guess.

Ah Hiveswap, I remember when I was actually interested in it. Andrew Hussie (HS's creator) grossly underestimated the effort it would take to create a 2.5 million dollar game (which also heavily delayed Homestuck's end).

Not trying to defend the game or its cringy fanbase mind you. Just trying to give context to the problemed history it has.

Why do the sprites lack in-between animation.:philthy:
If you're referring to the walk cycles and such its kind of Homestuck's "style" of sorts, as retarded as that may sound. It's meant to emulate old game animations, probably more specifically Earthbound.

Something tells me it's not as much "Style" as it is laziness in this game's case. They seem to be attempting a sort of "hand drawn animation" style for the game now but it's visually jarring seeing a character have sluggish movement while smoothly gliding across the screen. They really could have put more effort into that and amped up the walk animation's speed a bit.
The game has gone from what a game that cost as much as this one did looks to something akin to a free flash game made by a single person. And considering it isn't a single person endeavor and the hefty price this game has attatched to it even after half the funds were supposedly stolen for king's quest, this sort of shit is inexcusable.

Hussie really managed this project poorly. Bad communication, he still won't admit he got fucked out of so much money to the Kickstarter backers. It looks even worse than it did before, no doubt it will be a very medicore and unfinished game in the end.

Yes that's how animation looks in Homestuck but this is a game that still cost a lot of money, it looks choppy and unprofessional.
