Growing Around Holding Auditions for Growing Around VA for Timmy -

I seriously wonder if Enter will post something explaining why she was chosen over the other people who auditioned. I considered auditioning and I practiced three voices before deciding not to.

The first voice made me sound like Mabel if she was high on weed (a co-worker said that I sounded like I was high), the second was my natural relatively deep voice. The third was a creepy little voice with a stutter. None of them were good, and I'm kind of glad I didn't audition. Spared me the embarrassment.

I think that she might have gotten the part because Enter thought that there would be some humour in a male character sounding like a girl. Or maybe he heard that Bart is voiced by a girl and Tina is voiced by a man (I think, correct me if I'm wrong) and wanted to imitate those cartoons.

Actually, while I'm on the topic. Does anyone know if Enter watches and/or enjoys The Simpsons or Bob's Burgers? Would he appreciate a cartoon like Moral Orel? How would he react to Watership Down? What are his opinions on the William Street cartoons? Will he eventually try to imitate William Street's animation style? Has he seen Over The Garden Wall and analyzed it (like a lot of people online)?

He probably won't, but it's not because of Enter but rather due to the fact that in my experience, directors rarely explain their casting choices

Granted, it's not as bad (or hilarious) as it may have sounded when I mentioned it, but here it is.

That is legitimately terrible. He reads every line the same way. There's no variation and his voice always goes up at the end like he's asking a question. There's no character whatsoever in his reading... but then again, there's none in the dialogue or casting call either.

Thank you. I'm still holding out on either a. They recast Timmy again or b. They consider me for other parts.

Kind of OT, but here's some advice that you can take or leave:
Honestly, I don't think this will get you any more cred than fandubs. The quality of the cast is pretty low. The girl they cast is decent but her voice is grating and her read is very generic, nothing remarkable about it whatsoever.

If you want to build up some experience for a resume I'd suggest not working on the internet. The best advice I can give you is to look into local radio stations. Find out who advertises with them and approach local businesses and see if they'll consider auditioning you to read for their commercials. Also, some radio stations do radio plays and those are an awesome way to get experience and work. You might even be able to audition to host. All of those things are an excellent way to build up a base.

When I was first getting into voice acting I was told that it's the single hardest industry to break into as an actor... but once you're in, you're in for life. This is absolutely true. If you can build up a presence, even if it's just local, you can take that to an agent who can help you move onto bigger and better things.

Do you really want to be associated with this BS? Really? You shouldn't, trust me - you, IMHO, need to find a gig with actual merit and hope of getting made and being noteworthy. Not popular, just good enough to be noteworthy to someone else out there looking for future talent. THIS ain't the fucking place - trust me, as much as you meant well.

I apologize if I went off-topic here, BTW.

I understand what you and @For The Internet are saying and will look into those options, but I fear there aren't too many VO opportunities where I live (plenty of theatre and film ones though!).
Due to this, I feel I may need to take any opportunity I can. Would GA skyrocket my VO career? Absolutely not! Would it be a fun little project to do? Probably.

I can think of two scenarios if I got cast. If if turns out to be good and garner a sizable fandom, then I wold actively participate in said Fandom and be proud of my work on the show immensely. If it fails (like many of us are predicting), then I would simply write them off as another client and go on with my life.

If you want to continue discussing this with me, then shoot me a message as I do not intend to derail this thread any further .

I'm surprised. I would have expected this guy, Frank Hurley,
to win, since he fit the part decently. He is okay, but I might be a little biased since it was the first one I heard. Seriously, why the hell would you go with a female lets player who sounds like a 16 year old girl that doesn't even sound at all like what I would expect a 11 year old would sound like.

Yeah, it's much worse than I remember it being. I guess listening to a lot of those other auditions melted part of my brain.
I wonder if this happened to Enter and the gang while they were choosing too.

People tend to asspat that kind of stuff, just look in the comments of that video. Nobody complained about the voice, because they liked both Youtubers.

It won't be a fun project, though. It's going to be a dramatic clusterfuck. It's an extremely amateur operation, they didn't even know enough to give character ages during their casting calls. You won't learn from it and the credit won't impress anyone and thus it can actually only hurt you.
Where I live there is barely any acting industry but there is work to get, you just need to get in with an agent or integrate yourself into the local industry. I've worked in film, television, radio and stage in a place that barely produces movies or tv shows because I got my foot in the door. Always look out for open castings that you can drive out to, as well. Don't restrict yourself to just voice acting. VA was my favourite thing to do but I didn't get any work in that industry until I'd established myself doing other things. Even extra work is good experience.

The only reason any of us should try to get on the team is to see this wreck unfold from all angles.

I actually know Timmy's first VA, the video posted earlier wasn't the right one. The real reason the first guy was booted is kind of interesting.
