Harper Lee is one of America's greatest authors, despite only publishing one book. After 55 years she has announced her second book to be released and the literary world is going fucking bananas.
Go Set a Watchman will be published this year and takes place 20 years after To Kill A Mockingbird. The story involves Scout, who now lives in New York, visiting her father Atticus.
Interestingly, Lee wrote this book before To Kill a Mockingbird.

To Kill a Mockingbird is one of my favorite novels.
Chris's too
Chris: The last book I read... was To Kill a Mockingbird.

Matthew: That's high-school shit.

Chris: You call this high-school, I call it adult, I call it...

Matthew: Kacey read that in high school, Kacey read that as a freshman in high school.

Chris: I call it adult drama.

Matthew: An adult drama.

Chris: Yeah. It was very dramatic, and I felt for the characters in that, in that story, just like I feel for every character, all the characters in the stor-, in the stories that I have read, throughout my whole life.

Matthew: So what exactly did you learn from this book?

Chris: [long pause] I... have... learned... that I have to be able to cope and be patient with, with a, with everybody who makes, a whole lot of people that may appear to be impatient or that could be hard to put up with. Like George had to put up with Lenny throughout the story. I mean, I'd say that's...

Matthew: That's Of Mice and Men.

Chris: Oh, I'm sorry, I'm getting my stories mixed up. Yeah. Yeah. To Kill a Mockingbird. Yeah.

Matthew: Yeeeaaaaah... did you even read this book?

I'm curious what it's going to focus on.

To Kill a Mockingbird was clearly a story that focused on prejudice and used racism to convey that effectively. And even the story with Boo Radley fit into the central themes. As did Scout's own assumptions about the people around her. Like how she thought her teacher was a really nice lady until she found out her teacher didn't think interracial marriage should be allowed.

So I'm curious what Harper Lee will focus on thematically with a sequel to To Kill a Mockingbird, and if she's rewritten it in the 50 someodd years since she wrote it (if the claims that she wrote it prior to To Kill a Mockingbird are to be believed). If she has rewritten it i'm curious if she's incorporated more modern influences into her works.
