Why there wasn't any thread on this for a long time is baffling. These spergs are about as obnoxious as anyone that you'll find in the brony community. It's been revealed that major cows like Ancani have also been fans of this long running webcomic.

For those who luckily don't know what Homestuck is, it's a webcomic that is well known for it's immense length. Over 8000 pages and 800,000 words and counting. I have never read any of this comic for myself and not gonna bother to because I'm sure it's overrated shit, but I have encountered Homestuck fans before and have usually found them to be obnoxious and quite protective about being fans of this thing. Technically the comic has ended but there's still an epilogue in progress so these people aren't going away for a while.

It's not just me that's noticed this. There's a whole Reddit topic explaining what makes these tards so annoying. Granted it sounds like the same issues that you'll find in other fandoms but what I'm trying to figure out is what makes Homestuck such a sperg magnet. Perhaps there are better clues to this phenomenon elsewhere.

https://www.reddit.com/r/homestuck/comments/2xlrme/why_do_people_dislike_homestuck_fans_so_much/

"homestuck fans are a lot like really heavy drug users. when people ask about homestuck there's a lot of responses like "i can't explain what it is, you just have to read it, man" which can feel a little obnoxious

but honestly it's just that there is a lot of young teenagers into hs."

It has to be bad if there's even a whole anti-Homestuck DeviantArt group. I think this might hold even more clues.

If that isn't enough to convince people that there's something seriously weird going on here, I think @Helvetica Scenario summed up everything best:

brittany and i love her a lot and blog about her a lot! i also have two moirails, ingrid(who lives with me) and anna (who shares my irl name).

i quoted damara megido during sex once and i don’t regret it at all.

I still can't get over this shit from @CatParty's posts on the first page. If anybody out there needed any further proof that Homestuck is a goddamn blight and its fans are all painfully autistic, here it fucking is. No, you don't have two 'moirails', Acey, and I hate you for making me google that idiotic term to find out what you're actually talking about here. You have two close friends who I desperately hope are slightly less spergy than you, but if they aren't rolling their eyes at this middle-school nonsense behind your back they probably aren't.

Finally, anyone who quotes Homestuck characters during sex is not mature enough to be having it. Jesus tapdancing Christ.

Update: @The Lawgiver did a pretty nice job summarizing what the comic itself is, so here's there explanation on it.

Homestuck is a webcomic that started out as the fourth in a series of these "interactive webcomics" where anyone can give suggestions and whatever suggestion gets randomly picked would be the next panel in the comic. The plot was about A kid stuck in his home with his overbearing single father. it then took a batshit Armageddon/TRON sort of turn that pretty much made the whole "Homestuck" name worthless but people stuck around because they found it interesting. At some point Andrew Hussie removed suggestions to 'end the comic faster" It didn't end faster. This is probably due to the fact he realized he could milk it.
It's not exactly sure when it happened, but some time after the "internet trolls" the kid and his friends regularly dealt with were revealed to literally be grey aliens based on the various types of insufferable pricks on the internet, the fanbase hit maximum autistic mass. Thanks to the inevitable effects of content aggregation it eventually collided with every other deviant subculture causing it to cascade into the black hole it is today.

A lot of the shit terminology (if you're talking about shit like "moirail" or whatever) is what happens when people apply fictional alien names for common relationships to the real world. There's an entire figurative trove of terms the grey aliens use, fans more than likely jokingly used the terms amongst one another but as anything oinline somebody didn't get the joke and started doing it seriously, so now we have a whole slew of this shit being splurted everywhere. What's really funny though, is how there's a stupid amount of people now that think shit like "fuckass", "go suck a fuck", "nook whiffer", "bulge biter", and more stupid insults originated from Homestuck when they didn't.
The first two I mentioned are movie quotes. The comic quotes a lot of movies. Not everyone watches a fuckton of movies so it's understandable someone might make that mistake. On the other side of things, bulge and nook have always been common slang terms for penis and vagina and it's fucking inexcusable that the fans frequently mistake those as "Homestuck quotes" unless they've been sheltered to the point they don't know about that sort of thing.

As for the androgynous homogays, that's probably just Tumblr.

Oh God, Homestuck. Homespergs are some of the most annoying fandoms, usually because the fans are extremely young. It doesn't help that the fandom is huge, so there's more space for spergs to latch onto it. Does anyone have those videos of the fans spitting into buckets and shit like that? That was one of the bigger incidents I saw, besides their war with the Hetalia fandom (who if one really wanted could have a thread of their own).

Also, semi-related, but I always thought @WanderingVagabond's username was actually a Rurouni Kenshin reference, since that's how the series' name could be translated (Wandering Vagabond Kenshin), and he seemed to be a fan of it. Do we have a halal thread on him?

Homestuck is too complicated to explain because it has no real story. Four kids get stuck in an alternate universe where internet trolls are actual trolls and they have to save the planet or something. I can't say anything more then that because that's literally all it is. Its boring because Hessie writes large text walls of junk nobody can understand, and if you don't read it, you get lost. The worse thing I've seen in this fandom so far other than them throwing grey paint everywhere is people getting harassed for shipping an abusive clown with his cannon gf.

No, but he got a well-deserved threadban.

I meant this thread to be more along the lines of waggly's Bad Webcomics thread and other threads on comics and shit like GoAnimate to be fair but valid point.

Yea, I'd really recommend you would take it back to the drawing board until you've got a specific community this thread can be pointed towards, otherwise it's going to devolve into example cherrypicking and likely sperging about the source material rather than the people it's supposed to be about. Not to mention embarrassing "I used to be a fan, but..."-stories.

-edit-

Moved the thread to Art and Literature so you can talk about the comic itself too, just don't let the autism overtake you.

I think one of the big things that attracted a lot of autism for homestuck was shipping. This gave speds ways they could ship all of their favorite characters together using a simple system. It even crossed with other fandoms, leaving you with cases of SASUKE <3< NARUTO or some other insane shit.
So really, you can blame shipping for a lot of this shit.

I don't think any sane human being could tell you what happens in Homestuck or give a cohesive summary that makes any sense.
I feel like the dude who makes it thinks he's all deep or whatever but clearly he is a madman (or he just makes shit up as he goes)

I've always thought that Hussie writes for himself.

Most webcomic artists write for an audience. They take care to improve their craft, ensuring a coherent story that is easy to understand. They add personal touches, but ultimately their work is aimed at the general public, not themselves. I have't seen that with Homestuck.

Hussie's the only one who really understands his work. It's a jumbled mess to most people, but to him it makes perfect sense.

I've read the comic, and though it certainly has much to be desired (the plot is utterly disjointed and had no real conclusion for years of buildup), it appeals to my surreal sense of humor. The fandom though is horrifying. I really dodged a bullet in my teen years, because I nearly joined it. :(

One of the most obnoxious aspects of the fandom is to over-analyze EVERYTHING. They treat the comic like it's some kind of great work of literature. Like it's Dante's Divine Comedy or some shit. Obviously, it isn't. It's probably because the fandom's largely on Tumblr, but come on.

It's a fuckhuge mess of non-traditional storytelling that doesn't pay off at all and most people inside of the ride only really care about shipping and other role-playing autism.

If you're actually going into homestuck, then prepare to receive 7 years worth of nonsense, paradox bullshit and complete in-satisfaction based on a story that only appeals to very few people, yet has a big fanbase because people don't really care about the story.

Also, Problem Sleuth is better.

I think it would sort of work if it was a movie but as a webcomic (or whatever you consider it to be) it fails because you need to put effort into actually just getting through it (the clicking is awful) which distracts from the actual story

Hilariously enough it also only really works as a webcomic because there's very little forms of media that would support the incredible length of the comic. Also bear in mind that most of the words come from chat-logs which mostly involve retards with shitty typing quirks like leetspeak. It only really works in the bizarre pseudo-CYOA webcomic... thing it's got going on, and it still is work to read it like that.

Homestuck is the War and Peace of Autism-- extremely long, too many plot lines going on, and references going in and out like your whore of a mother on a lonely Tuesday night. This comes from someone who has read both of these types of literature. With War and Peace, however, there is historical context and stuff is coherent provided you can get through the meaty parts. With Homestuck.... it's "??????"

MS paint adventures is a poorly coded site as a whole. The only good thing to come out of it was Sweet Bro and Hella Jeff.

Also, Problem Sleuth is better.

Problem Sleuth is absolutely better. One of Hussie's biggest strengths is humor, it's shorter, and the plot doesn't have to make sense because the entire thing is a clusterfuck of bizarre humor, pop culture references, and odd characterization.

And Problem Sleuth.
