How do I tag someone's quoted text to a reply I've made - Quote someone within an edit

  • Intermittent Denial of Service attack is causing downtime. Looks like a kiddie 5 min rental. Looking into some solutions.

You can always just highlight the quoted text and add it back in manually. This is specifically a pain in the ass that you have to do manually yourself because the alternative (you know, just not doing this) is almost always better.

I am slow and not communicating/thinking clearly.

I want to tag the person, I've got no problem throwing some quotes up and copying and pasting.

Does this not work?
1) Reply to the first post:

2) (The important step) Go to the bit where the quoted post would appear in the quote and set the text cursor there:

3) Find the second (inner) quote, typically by clicking the arrow next to the quotee as shown here:

4) Click 'Reply' on that post:

4) Voila?

ETA: Or possibly I'm misunderstanding? If you're asking if you can notify people with tags in edits, then no you can't. The tags only notify people when you first make the post. So e.g. I can use this to tag @Null all I want without fear (@Null @Null @Null @Null @Null @Null) because he won't be notified about it because this is an edit.

ETA2: Or, if you're asking how to add a quote to an edit, probably just reply in the usual way and then copy/paste the quote from the 'New message' box into the 'Edit message' box. That'll always work. It won't notify them that you've quoted them of course (for the same reason that tagging in an edit doesn't notify them).

Okay, I think that's me covering every possible interpretation of your question, so hopefully at least one of those answers was helpful.
