Funny you should ask because I just whipped up a batch
What I like to do each day is fill a half gallon thermos with green tea. Now I have heard the bags vs loose discussion a billion times but frankly it all boils down to this. While loose may be significantly better tasting and might be slightly better in terms of nutrition, bagged is ten times cheaper even for a halfway decent bulk buy (i.e. Clipper Organic which I use) and has pretty much the same health benefits and caffine so fuck it, I go with bagged.
Basically get 4 decentish quality green tea bags, put in the empty thermos, then boil over 2 litres in the kettle and let it cool after its boiled in the kettle for 20ish minutes so it doesnt scorch the tea. after pouring in I leave to steep for 3 minutes with a quick stir at the beginning and end to make sure everything is mixed, and after that extract the bags and drink the tea over the course of the next 3 hours. You get your caffine you get your antioxidents and you get a not too bitter drank
Black, both tea and coffee. Decent black tea is lovely, (sorry fellow bongistanis, you're all wrong) although most people drink that completely indiscrimately blended shite, so it'll taste like factory floor sweeping if you've not dumped cow squeezing into it. A good assam/ceylon with none of that Kenyan crap in it is delightful when drunk black.
No wait actually I like my men light and mean it doesn’t work damn
That comment about the factory floor sweepings - we burgers literally get floor sweepings from China and Africa if we just go to the grocery store and buy tea bags. I know this is true because I have worked with companies that do this. They trim tea leaves all day for the British and Chinese markets, then they put flour down and sweep up the floor and that goes into the American market. There was a big controversy a little while back because they were using wheat flour which is an allergen. They just changed the floor sweeping flour to a non-allergen-containing variety but the practice continues.
Food manufacturers in general are sketchy and not to be trusted. Bigger brand names usually means better QC since they have more to lose. This concludes my PSA thank you for reading <3
I used to only take my coffee black. When I worked in a coffee shop during my undergrad years, we piled the espresso into our drinks. We were not afraid to be awake all goddamn night long!!!!!! And when we were busy we didn't always have time to make ourselves anything too complicated. We tempered our shots by making real macchiatos. Starbucks macchiatos are complete shit, they're basically milkshakes. A real macchiato is a shot of espresso with a dollop of milk foam on top. That's it. It's very small, it's very intense. In my old shop we had a regular morning customer who was from Italy Italian. He would buy a newspaper and order a macchiato. We'd make it in a little demitasse shot glass. He'd carry it over to the sugars and creamers. He'd load that fucking shot up with sugar, give it a quick swirl, and toss it back like tequila. And if you make it right it has the same leveling quality of a shot of alcohol. You're suddenly awake enough to take on shirtless Putin himself in a street fight. It's hot and sweet and has a hard edge. For a cold, rainy day where you're finally feeling like the temperature is below 40 degrees, it's a perfect little kickstart to a morning. Coffee for me is basically breakfast. When I started letting Bailey make it for me while I was visiting, she put in enough cream to turn it the "same color as the chief khakis," and it tasted like happiness and love. So I still maintain that good coffee doesn't necessarily have to have cream. My best coffee experience was on an Austrian flight from Vienna to Prague. I had two cups. I pondered a third.
The first cup of coffee gets fixed up with sweet-n-low and whatever creamer is available. Half-and-half is best, but I never have it, so I've come to prefer store brand non-dairy powdered shit. I want to enjoy the first cup of the day.
Every other cup is black and cold, or maybe instant and cold. It's just to keep me alive, so bitter and unpleasant is good. I well eat instant crystals and coffee beans straight if the situation dictates.
