How much of a picky eater is Chris? -

Being Vietnamese, most of us are raised not to be so picky on what we eat because in my country, we eat what tastes good and is good for us to survive at least. So we tend to see picky people as either sick or plain rude. I also have a knack for exotic cuisine because I've been overseas many times (I like salmon caviar because it's really good and fresh). But I recently learned that in the American culture, picky eaters tend to be seen as spoiled excessively because they would be given the food they like whether its good for them or not. Granted that there are some people who don't eat certain foods due to diets, health conditions, and even by religious faith which is a whole different issue.(Avoiding fast food places and processed snack foods is not being picky because you're making better health choices for yourself.) My friend told me how he knows this one Mexican couple who planned on doing an experiment on their kid after they have him. What they did was that they cooked their own food and choose the right ingredients to feed their kid with but told him that he cannot eat McDonald's until he was 8. By the time he had turn 8, he ate a cheeseburger from McDonald's but after one bite, he told his parents that he doesn't like McDonald's because he's more used to the food that his parents gave him which are healthy foods. We all know Chris doesn't like :pickle: because it reminds him of penises but he tends to limit his nutrition to McDonald's and other "food" choices like Hungry Man TV dinners at least and never anything else. I think Chris is so picky on his eating that if I were to have him eat smoked salmon sushi or salmon caviar, he'd say no and go back to McDonald's. Also note how he used to have a fit against his father of Burger King. So do you think Chris is a very picky eater? If so, how picky can you guess he be?

I think he's quite picky. He probably eats the lettuce in those "healthy McWraps" because it's "healthy" for him and provides him with enough "nutrition". But if you buy yourself a lettuce or a bag of salad and make your own salad, its better. I heard nothing much of Chris eating fruits or even drinking orange juice despite the health benefits for him (yes I am aware how store bought orange juice can be loaded with sugar but lets face it; orange juice has vitamin C to boost one's immunity system). Would you say Chris is a picky eater and if so, how picky?

His mother probably didn't cook much when he was a child and autistic children are notoriously choosy eaters by default. He probably cried and threw fits until he got what he wanted for food, or the food he ate these days could have been a reward for acceptable behavior or other small things. I remember reading that in order to get him to talk (or was it read?) Barb had to buy Chris a toy if he said a word or two off of it. She could have very well done the same thing with fast food or snacks. Children who receive fast food as a reward correlate it with good feelings later on as adults without even realizing it. So, I don't know if he was picky by default. He could have been led down that road.

He'll eat whatever the McDonald's commercials tell him is good. You don't get a gut like that by being picky

But question is why is he only fond with McDonald's and not actual restaurant food? If you introduce him to say Red Robin's, he might react differently and prefer McDonald's instead.

If someone cooked him something he probably would go "Mmm... I *sigh* don't know how to tell you dis. But... *sigh* I'm going to McDonalds after" (:_(

His stomach is so used to grease and sugar his blood can't absorb nutrients and vitamins anymore.

Chris would be having an extravagant dinner at his new Sweetheart from the Ground-Up's parents' house. Squid ravioli in a lemon grass broth with goat cheese profiteroles, arugula Caesar salad, swordfish meatloaf with onion marmalade, rare roasted partridge breast in raspberry coulis with a sorrel timbale, grilled free-range rabbit with herbed french fries. The plates would be out, the napkins, the utensils, the candles.

And then Chris plops down onto the chair, which creaks softly as a waft of shit emanates from him. "Hmmm, myeah, yeah I - I already went and got some - some food already," he says, placing his stained McDonald's bag on the table. He then proceeds to eat eight q-sands and four healthy mcwraps in front of his future-in-laws, staring at his Sweetheart from the Ground-Up the entire time.

Wow! That sounds tasty! Sounds like a luxurious home dinner to me as well or at least by my standards.

Chris eats like an unsupervised child. If he wants a ton of sugar filled soda/tea he's going to drink it. If he wants whatever new fast food crap is out there, he's going to eat it. But since television told him that the cool kids don't eat vegetables, he'll believe that they'll "make him green in the face".

And that's why junk food advertising became a political agenda. I don't consume much sugar because they make me thirsty and too much makes my stomach hurts. I also don't eat candy in the morning; not even one because it feels funny on my teeth. So I consume fruits and sometimes cheese to compensate for that and its healthier too. Speaking of cheese, I wonder if Chris is picky on his cheese choices because I've always loved various cheese since I was a kid and as I got older, I studied different kinds of cheese. Smoked Gouda, belavitano, Double Gloucester, and other cheeses that I can't remember their names sounds wonderful to me. Blue cheese, I'm a little picky on that because I'm used to eating chicken wings with blue cheese sauce but to eat blue cheese itself or in other ways like with a salad, it tastes strong and weird for me. I tried blue cheese bacon cheese burger and it somewhat helped but I'd stick with spicy chicken wings and blue cheese. Second, I didn't grow up eating blue cheese and eating it takes time for me to get used to which I'm still struggling with. Wonder if Chris is picky on different types of cheeses too?

Good. The fucker doesn't deserve goat cheese.
Nor do I think he can process any sort of rare meats at this point ._. His stomach would probably freak out >:

Probably worse than how I used to have stomach problems from eating scallop when I was young. It was so bad, I avoid eating scallops as much as possible even to this day because of that fear. Very rarely, I eat scallops and I have no problem because as I grew older, I have less stomach pains from eating scallops. Yet, I'm afraid of them wondering if my stomach is still allergic to them or not. Even though it's probably not, I avoid them.

If it's fried, he'll eat it. If it has sugar in it, he'll drink it.

The big deal he made out the spicy wings at McDonalds says it all. The spicy wings to most people would be mild-medium at best due to eating foods which are much hotter (Indian, wasabi on sushi and Mexican for example). Chris would be too closed minded to have tried anything different.
I can imagine if he got a girlfriend who cooked him a curry he would not appreciate it and go down the road for Mcdonalds and yes I know GAS IS EXPENSIVE.

Excuse the "SPICY!". Damn auto correct.

Its alright we don't blame you. Accidents happen. Being Vietnamese, we like very spicy food but not the same way as Indians like them. I have trouble eating raw jalapeno and I can only eat pickled ones since they sting my ears. Indian food, don't get me started. Tried it and I am never doing that again. But other than that, I like most spicy foods. Curry is nice but I only like Thai curry though.

I heard from around the grape vine that he had to put sugar into his Reeb when he went to the bar to drink it.

Granted he was drinking garbage beer, but it was like Bud Lite or something. If he can't handle a little watered-down beer without sugar, chances are his palate is that of a 10 year old.

Also, Chris has shown specific ignorance towards all things culinary - particularly in mumble chats and talks with Kacey. He didn't know what risotto is - referring to it as 'a risotto'. But let's give him the benefit of the doubt; not everybody knows what risotto is.

When asked if he can cook, he said something like "If I had the ingredients and directions with me, yes, I could cook it". To me, this means that he has not tried to experiment around the kitchen with anything more brazen than a frozen stir fry bag or hamburger helper.

Whether or not his mom cooked for him as a kid, I don't know, but falling in line with Blarb and Bob's view of autism being a crippling illness that locks somebody in childhood forever, I would imagine that she was still making him macaroni and cheese by 16.

Also, I think I have heard him say that, in a mumble chat with :julay:, his favorite home-cooked food was mac and cheese.

He is picky in the sense that new things (outside of mac and cheese, microwaved food, country cookin', etc) would scare him away. This doesn't impact the convenience of his live however in the sense that he only eats that aforementioned crap

I know Chris doesn't like vegetables, according to his high school report, but lately he started eating salads. But he'd been eating McDonald's salads. Those salads are more fattening than a regular burger.

He liked sushi during his Megan phase, when he started going weeaboo. Which I was surprised about. Would Chris really eat raw fish?

I think what I always wondered what regards to Chris is if Barb was a good cook. Before they lived on take-out that is.

My parents did this, sort of. I had my first McDonalds at 8, but didn't like it back then. (Happy Meal, to be precise)
I only learned to somewhat like the radioactive waste at 15, and I usually order it without pickles or vegetables because they are IMO made of plastic and they are forced to make one just for me (yes they do that around here)

But still, KFC/Burger King > McD.

He probably just ate those 'california roll' type sushi, where the closest thing to fish is processed seafood extender sticks.
