How much of Chris' flaws are actually his fault? -

I've been following this guy for a while, and don't think I'm white knighting, because I still think he's a terrible human being, but how much of Chris' many failings and faults are actually his fault? Obviously, Borb weren't the best of parents, he does have Autism, and people like BlueSpike would cause me a lot of stress if they were to target me.

Now obviously everything he's done that has caused all of the trolling and the big messes he's gotten into were all because of things he's done, but what all made him this way?

Sorry if this seems like a dumb or typical question, but I'm curious as to how much involvement Chris had in becoming Chris.

Bungholio nailed it. I could see blaming his paranoia on the trolls but you could also blame that on Chris not just walking away from the situation like he should have (and was told to do).

The internet giving him constant attention (no matter how negative) couldn't have helped matters. I'd imagine having an entire site dedicated to you and people gathering on a forum to talk about you makes you feel like you're more influential than you really are.

Cole didn't have autism and wasn't treated the same way as Chris. Dude has serious mother issues and seems to try and to be the opposite of her and Bob (anti-Republican, lives in NY, old hipser, etc). Add in the general sense of entitlement from Barb and you have Cole Smithey.

But yeah. Autism can really affect a person, although they can be treated, taught how to cope and live relatively normal lives. His parents were really crappy too, especially Barb, but Bob wasn't much better.

Cole had Barb as a mother, so her crappy parenting skills may be his excuse as to why he is the way he is. We don't know enough about Bob's other children, but they at least did something with their lives and earned doctorates, so Bob managed to have 2 successful children out of 3.

Plenty of people have had autism but managed to be successful, and plenty of people have had crappy parenting and still managed to be successful. I don't know how many have had both against them and managed to be successful, but it probably isn't very many. Chris is at best an average person, and if only extraordinary people can rise above both autism and crappy parenting, Chris never had a chance.

Well, Chris is also woefully stupid so he would never walk away, which is why even before the trolling began he had issues (Target/Walmart incidents, Mary Lee Walsh). But yeah, his parents just didn't have it in them to raise him properly and they created a burden for themselves, schools, and society in general.

Autism has a lot to do with it. However, long before the trolling problems, Chris acted like an asshole to various people, from small black children to Target employees to mall cops. I know a lot of autistic people. I've never known autistics to be dicks like Chris.

Chris is one-third disability, one-third poor upbringing, and one-third selfish. About the best way I can put it. So a healthy 2/3 is not his fault admittedly...but that other 1/3 really shines through at times.

I still stand by the fact that the internet fed a lot of his already bad tendencies. There's nothing worse than giving somebody with an ego the illusion of influence and power as well as an enemy to fight.

To some extent. But it is paranoia based on his own warped view of reality. To him, he's done nothing wrong and the Internet trolls are the reason for his misery.
