Humans and other (possibly attractive?) intelligent life. -

Honestly speaking, human beings can't possibly be the only intelligent beings in a seemingly-infinite universe. There has to be at least one other intelligent and sentient civilization off earth.

Now the reptilian humanoid thing is weird and a pretty dumb conspiracy theory and I doubt other intelligent alien lifeforms are on our planet, but there could be other intelligent beings out there.

...And if they're out there, I'm sure they'd avoid humans like the plague. Shame, because aliens are awesome and I'd love to see what another may look like to aid in creature design.

Any opinions on this?

I fit into the category of other intelligent life, so I agree.

I agree with them being hostile. God knows humans are already, we could end up with an Avatar fiasco.

Still, it'd be cool to know what an alien could look like.

It would appear to me that if there were alien life and that alien life was advanced enough that it could leave their home planet and travel as far as Earth that the alien life would view conflict with other living beings as being an inefficient use of its time unless there is some greater good that could be gained. I do not know what that greater good would be, however I would assume it to be resource-based. Alien life capable of reaching Earth would likely have a far greater knowledge of all things than humans and either have access to energy sources better than what humans do or understand how to get efficiencies out of energy sources that we do not. In any event, there would be no value in destroying civilization or the planet itself, and aliens would not have a compelling urge to destroy man kind out of malice. There would truly be nothing much gained from contact and it would essentially be anti-climactic.

What would you do if you found a bunch of monkeys in some far corner of the jungle you live in? You'd probably just shrug it off and do nothing.

Now how would you feel if those monkeys started developing a basic community with iron age level weapons? You'd probably think you should do something about it. And by something, I mean killing all those fuckers before they become a menace to your wellbeing.

If you have the technology to reach this planet to attack it today, then you have the technology to defend your own planet. A preemptive attack with such meager rationale wouldn't even be in their philosophy. Winners look forward, not back at 2nd place.

They don't know that for sure. We don't know for sure.

We're really in the dark about of our own level of sophistication when it comes to weapons of mass destruction. Who knows if the US or Russia or any other country has developed a nuke 100 times as deadly as whatever wikipedia lists as the most powerful?

Fear brings out the worst in humans and I don't expect any other species, advanced as they might be, to be any different. Our level of weaponry might not even be their biggest cause of alarm. Perhaps just creating artificial satellites or crude spacecraft is enough of red flag to other elderly alien civilizations.

If they know enough to observe then they know enough to investigate and conclude on the best couse of action. We barely can reach our own moon. We are more effort than threat and any society that became as advanced as to reach us would see this.

We don't know the technological gap between us and an alien race capable of coming to this planet. We don't know the true limits of space travel, and reaching relativistic speeds might be a pipe dream. If an alien race traveled over 50 years to reach this planet (after seemingly hitting plateau in its own space race) and found a human society that is less than 200 years behind them they'd be right to be afraid.
