I know I live in the metropolitan area and hurricanes don't usually hit here (super storm sandy notwithstanding) but I have mixed feelings about this hurricane season. On the one hand a big storm akin to sandy would probably be the killing blow that crippples the already dying city of New York and the surrounding area..on the other it's still my home. And I would not wanna be caught on the middle of a major disaster that makes things go from bad to worse

I’m pretty sure the city of Cameron, LA was yeeted off the map. No pictures yet and that’s probably because no one can get to it (although an ABC affiliate was trying as of an hour ago).

Meanwhile, 45 miles north in Lake Charles:

No, that’s not a boat, it’s the IP Casino wedged under the I-10 bridge.

Oh, and there’s also a massive fire next to the oil refinery in Lake Charles, as if things weren’t bad enough for them.

The Wikipedia article on Cameron, LA is nothing but how every so often the town is completely and utterly destroyed by hurricanes. Looks like this is the third time in 15 years.

That was from 2005, during Hurricane Katrina when at the time, Mississippi gambling laws forced the casino area to be on water. After the hurricane, the law changed that the casino can be on land, but it still has to be at least a certain distance from water.

That picture was taken today by hurricane hunters. There are no bridges that look like that on the MS coast (What you’re saying about MS casinos is true though).

Here’s a pic of the presumed chemical fire. If you look closely to the immediate right, there is the I-10 bridge with the casino under it.

Articles: Golden Nugget gets comrstic damage (just a scratch basically)

LAKE CHARLES, Louisiana (KTRK) -- Fierce winds from Hurricane Laura lashed three Lake Charles casinos causing damage to rooftops, buildings and swimming pools, even sending a riverboat into a bridge.

The floating casino Isle of Capri broke loose and hit the I-10 bridge. The floating casino was put back in place by a tugboat later in the day. ABC13 has reached out to the Isle of Capri but has not heard back.

The Golden Nugget suffered some minor cosmetic damage to the top of the hotel, plus damage to an outside stage and swimming pool. The hotel provided shelter for refinery workers, first responders and journalists covering the storm, including ABC13's Ted Oberg.

The Golden Nugget released the following statement:

"Safety is always our top priority. After further assessing the situation, intense recovery efforts and accommodating the needs of first responders, we are unsure of an exact reopening date. We look forward to serving our patrons when the time is right and deemed safe to do so. Although we were very fortunate that the majority of our hotel and casino was unaffected by Hurricane Laura, many in the surrounding areas were not. Our focus remains on our employees, our community and their recovery efforts. Our prayers go out our nearly 1,700 employees of the Golden Nugget Casino and our area-residents in the greater Lake Charles and Louisiana communities."

The L'Auberge casino suffered damage to some of the top floors of the building and heavy damage to the lazy river and pool area. L'Auberge has not responded to our request for more information.

Isle of Capri goes under bridge

The Isle of Capri riverboat casino in Lake Charles broke from its mooring overnight and floated away, wedging itself under the I-10 bridge, according to a report received by Louisiana State Police Maj. Doug Cain.

The casino hotel in Lake Charles closed its doors on Tuesday ahead of Hurricane Laura's landfall, according to its Facebook page.

The casino riverboat, called the Grand Palais, houses more than 1,175 slot machines and 34 table games, according to its website.

A tugboat was seen trying to move the riverboat from underneath the bridge.

The damage to the riverboat casino is just one of the dozens of structures impacted by Hurricane Laura's Category 4 landfall in Louisiana.

Capital One building gets its windows blown

(Bloomberg) -- Capital One Financial Corp.’s 22-story tower in Lake Charles, Louisiana, was battered by Hurricane Laura.

The lender said it closed all of the branches and offices in Laura’s path ahead of the storm’s arrival, including the Lake Charles tower, to keep staff and customers safe. The vast majority of employees in the area had already been working from home due to the coronavirus pandemic, Capital One said in a statement.

Images on social media showed severe storm damage to windows throughout the 400,000-square-foot (37,000-square-meter) Lake Charles facility, which also includes an adjacent parking garage and drive-in banking operations. The building was also heavily damaged by Hurricane Rita in 2005.
