Necroing the thread because Nish Kumar, who was mentioned further upthread, did a set for a charity lunch at the Lord's Taverners cricket club, tried to make some shitty Brexit jokes and got absolutely BTFO'd by the audience. There's only clips of the end of his set online, but you can see here he's getting booed and apparently someone threw a bread roll at him:

A highlight is at 00:58 when he says "It's dangerous to perform for a group of people largely descended from people who colonised my ancestors", but the best part is at 2:23 when he says "I'll tell you two more things, and then I'll leave" and a great cheer goes up from the crowd. His face at that moment is pure meme material:

This is bar none one of the worst reactions I've ever seen a comedian have to hecklers. I've seen amateur comedians who've handled hecklers better. He says that in his entire time performing comedy, he's never had food thrown at him, and it's obvious that he doesn't have much experience performing to an audience outside the BBC bubble who won't kiss his arse.

At the end, realising he's lost the crowd, he tries to be defiant and say "I'm not going anywhere, full Bercow!" which goes down like a lead balloon before the event organiser comes on and politely escorts him off:

This guy's face says it all really:

Lol, this event’s under a section called “Rise to Fame” on his Wikipedia page:

>it's expected to cater to everyone

It only caters to the various flavours of the left.

In a general sense yes, but more genrally it represents upper middle class sentiments and fears-it's left wing almost by accident in the same sense as a hard line religious person might be 'Conservative' . if anything it's really shit at being a left wing media source because its been playing soft ball with the actual goverment for coming up to 10 years. It's bassically taken Boris to actually snub them to give them some teeth, which says a lot considering the last 5 years.
Frankly If I was a Conservative I'd fucking love them because all they do is shit on 'Gammon' (something which is totally self-defeating) and say the orange man is bad (which is irrelivant because he's not A British political figure) while as you said they constantly undermine the Corbyn and by proxy the oppositition.

Having watched the BBC's output critically over the last few years, the Beeb is politically best described as Identarian Intersectional Feminist liberal. They hate the Tories, always have, but they also hate Corbyn because he's all about old-school socialism and not enough about Trannies, gay disabled Muslim pole dancers and diversity quotas. That's why the BBC pretty much manufactured the Labour antisemitism "scandal" as its main vector of attack against him - the SJW staffers at the BBC have long decades of "finding" racism everywhere they look and pretty much wrote the book on how to use wrongthink allegations to cancel someone. That's why the BBC gave way more airtime to a minority of anti-semites in the party than they did to, say, their utterly batshit economic policies. That would require analysis and look more obviously biased, but putting your fingers in your ears and screaming "racism" is easy, and effective.

This resulted in the remarkable spectacle of the state broadcaster being openly biased against both main parties in a general election. They instead put their weight behind the Lib Dems, always the party of petty political correct moralising and pink hair, who proceeded to lose almost half their seats..

This is why they either go for comedians who score diversity points (Nish Kumar, Shappi Khorsandi), ones who parrot all the right political messages (Russell Howard, John Oliver before he moved to the States), or ones so milquetoast they have no detectable political alignment (Michael McIntyre, Jack Whitehall). Not only do they not give platforms to right-wing comedians, they've also taken the Socialist/Communist ones you used to see ten years ago off the air as well. Mark Steel, Alexei Sayle, Russell Brand, all disappeared from the Beeb for talking about wealth inequality rather than defending the Ghostbusters reboot. Frankie Boyle was deemed too problematic, and too Socialist. Fuck, I can't even remember the last time I saw Eddie Izzard since the Brexit referendum, I guess he was too truscum for them (Izzard is very particular about stating that he is a straight male transvestite, not a troon).

I thought Izzard announced he was trans recently?

Stewart Lee is buttmad at Ricky Gervais over the Golden Globes and think his jokes will result in literal murder:

View attachment 1095101

He actually asks Gervais to kill himself at one point:

View attachment 1095102
Keep in mind that Gervais liked Corbyn and was (if I remember correctly) employed by the student union in college, he is a leftie, or he would have been called one 5 years ago. That is of course not good enough for Lee who tried to cancel Ben Elton way back before cancelling was a thing, not because he's a hack but because he doesn't hate Queen, the monster.

So now Gervais is a nazi, or nazi adjacent, and, in a dose of irony so strong the ancient Greeks would find it off putting, he is the "wokefinder general" - never mind the metric tonne of common people who have had their lives ruined by woke crybullies, big brained leftist Stewart Lee know Gervais laughing at celebrities is what's really destroying society! It's a literal witch hunt!

Here's an archive of the article, fuck giving the guardian clicks.

Is Lee in love with the cutesy "Wokefinder General" name he came up with or afraid to actually use Gervais' name as so often occurs among the woke on twitter.

Either way abusing it like that makes those snippets nigh unreadable.

I really struggle to get the appeal of Stewart Lee. What does he do that’s different to any other comedian? It’s like his agent has pushed the idea that he’s a higher plane of intellectual comedy to disguise the fact he espouses the same liberal values as literally every other comic, with added shitting-on-other-comedians so his audience can feel like cultured individuals above the popular, plebeian acts.

That's pretty much it. He talks about politics and talks slowly and thoughtfully so you feel smart when he says what you are thinking. Anyone who doesn't think he is funny therefore 'doesn't get it', or is mad about his politics, not that every joke he tells is either a pun or a shaggy dog story sorry, deconstruction of comedy.

Remember how Frankie Boyle made a career on the back of telling the foulest, most fucked up, most sociopathic jokes?

Seems he doesn't like it when Ricky Gervais makes fun of the troons.

Frankie does not have positive words to say about Ricky Gervais as a stand-up comedian. “If you’re a stand-up watching him, you feel like, ‘oh, that’s someone doing a version of what we do,’” he says. “But really, it’s that I saw him doing his routine about trans people and I thought it was very lazy [in a 2018 Netflix special, Gervais did a routine about Caitlyn Jenner and trans identity]. I would like him to have the same respect for trans people as he seems to have for animals. I don’t think that’s a lot to ask.”

I seriously don't know how he reconciles that sentiment when he used to pull shit like this:

Also, whenever someone says "I wasn't offended, it was just lazy/not funny" regarding a joke, this is the first image that springs to mind:

"Frankie Boyle shows exactly what’s wrong with woke orthodoxy. Frankie makes jokes about paedophilia, torture, rape, genocide, disabled kids raping their mothers. But has a problem with Ricky Gervais making jokes about Transgender people. Call it morality all you like. It’s a cult."
