I've heard that the great firewall of china isn't really that bulletproof. If that's the case, how come we almost never see people claiming to be Chinese mainlanders anywhere on the Internet?

You'll find a lot of these guys in Youtube comment sections for some reason. Usually wumao types. So the great firewall is weak, but probably it's weak to let propagandists out.

It's alright I know how to keep the china shills away

Nice to meet you! Sorry, what I said may offend you, but I can only repeat what I have observed on the Internet. I don't know enough about Vietnam, so I can't guarantee that it is comprehensive and objective.

I know what you said about the history of Vietnam, but I'm sorry I didn't understand the meaning of this paragraph "that really funny because the vietnamese people manage to resist cynicisation by revolt when......."

With regard to Vietnam, our attitude towards this country is actually very interesting, because Vietnam implements a socialist system similar to that of China, and the latter reform has become a market economy, so there are many similarities with China. On our network, there is a Chinese who has lived in Vietnam for many years. He often publishes videos introducing Vietnam in Chinese. In the videos, he criticizes Vietnam's system, economy, women's rights and other issues. But in fact, people who often watch his videos all know that he is using Vietnam to imply China, and the Vietnam issues he mentions will make people think that he is talking about China. Another meme on the Internet is to use the word "Vietnam" instead of "China" to express satire on China. For example, to say "this is Vietnam News" under China's negative news and to replace China with Vietnam in articles criticizing China's problems. Sorry, you may be angry about this, but it's a way for people to evade word censorship, The main Satirized irony is also China itself。

On the question of Vietnam, I would like to ask, because I have read the news that some people have been sentenced to more than ten years' imprisonment by Vietnam for the crime of subverting the state power. How much control does Vietnam have over speech? Will people be arrested for criticizing leaders? What do Vietnamese think of their own government and communism and Ho Chi Minh?

In addition, I don't know if you know Touhou. Domestic Touhou fans often call themselves "the Communist Party of Vietnam". The meme of the Communist Party of Vietnam comes from abroad. Because they are good at hiding in the woods for guerrilla warfare, it is used to describe those who often hide their identity but suddenly appear in large numbers at some times, This is used to describe the large number of touhou fans in China. By the way, this picture is a Chinese animation. The protagonist is also called the Communist Party of Vietnam because his T-shirt looks like the Vietnamese national flag。
Yeah, Vietnam still imprisons people for speaking out about the party. During the term of their last prime minister it got especially bad. Now that there's a new one I think it's yet to be seen what'll happen. I think people don't expect them to go away, but that it'll return to the "lighter" sentences. I myself an half-vietnamese and have many Vietnamese friends with relatives still in Vietnam. They're more in tune with the country. Generally the picture they paint is that the South still hates Communism and is very against that and that state media uses that to stir up paranoia about China. While the North doesn't have as much as a problem with Communism. I probably can't provide as good as an answer as other users in this thread though.

Good to see you come back. I honestly thought you had been thrown in the gulag
Thank you. I still remember you, too.

asking how right-wing / traditionalist are you on social issues.
Well, I can't make it clear about political orientation, but there are problems in the definition of left wing and right wing in China. A question that is often debated is, is China in the upper left corner or the upper right corner? Some people think that China should be in the upper right corner of the political axis because of its market economy, strong nationalism and conservative tendencies, but some still insist that China is a Soviet style totalitarian red model。

Some say your country is in another dynasty, not through bloodline but party.
Maybe.

I've heard that the great firewall of china isn't really that bulletproof. If that's the case, how come we almost never see people claiming to be Chinese mainlanders anywhere on the Internet?
You can still see a lot of them on big websites like youtube and twitter. In fact, there are many people who use VPN to cross the firewall in China. Of course, some people will be punished for not taking good security measures or bad luck。
Speaking about racism, has this been covered by the Chinese media?
Yes, this case is often mentioned in the Chinese news to prove racial discrimination in the United States. Some people have specially made caricatures. A spokesman for the foreign ministry even mentioned "I can't breathe" on twitter, although there have been many such incidents in China. In addition, as black people are mentioned. Recently, in a Chinese University, a black English teacher killed a Chinese female student because of her emotion, which aroused strong resentment among the Chinese people. However, the government is trying to suppress the heat of this incident, and seldom mentions it。

In the domestic propaganda, shooting and racial discrimination cases occur every day in the United States, and a large number of people die in the epidemic.

How funny - our propaganda says the same!

(to explain the joke, because I worry it might not be clear across cultures, people in America are told daily by the US media and by teachers that their country is overwhelmed with racism).

It's certainly not all book publishers, but I get your point. It really does make you wonder, just like how it is all these "woke companies" continue to exist even they we know they're hemorrhaging money. I also don't understand how no one has blown a whistle to all this bullcrap either.

There's a scene in Atlas Shrugged which I didn't understand when I was younger but now do. It's where one of her idealised heroes goes on one of their big old speeches, but it is instructive nontheless. This character lambasts people at a party where they are all ostentatiously donating money saying "but there's something more valuable than money, isn't there? Pull. Pull is the real value."

Money doesn't function quite the same way for the ultrarich as it does for the less well-off. For us it is something we depend upon. But for them it's more symbiotic. What really matters is networking, favours and influence. A business can flounder along for years if it's run by the right people. Favourable loans will be given when they wouldn't be to another company. Deals made. Positive write up in the financial press. Money to an middle class or poor person is a necessity. For them, it's a tool. Sure, it's nice to have more of that tool but when your needs are met, money serves other purposes. And donating a million or so to the right causes gets you invited to the right parties and backrooms and that's more valuable than the million or so to these people.

I always liked that unexplained detail in the John Wick movies where they use these gold coins for any REAL services; as if they all know that US dollars, Euros, etc. are just for the ephemeral illusionary surface world.

That reminds me of another question. @Bayun Fulan Are the John Wick movies popular in China? What did people think of them?

What do you mean "because of her emotion"?

Do you know that George Floyd died of a drug overdose and not from the knee on his neck? Many people even in America do not and think you are racist if you say so, even though the evidence is available and very strong.

Thank you for all your replies. This is a great thread.

OP, have you ever watched any videos from laowhy86 or serpentza, or their joint venture ADVchina? If so, what do you think about them? If not, are there any good youtube channels that talk some real shit about China that you'd recommend?

~ If you're an average "middle class" working adult & not a student; how much yearly vacation time are you given.... if any? (ex. 2 weeks paid time off per year)

~ Can you pick a specific vacation timeframe, or is it left up to the employer/state?

~ If you have children, does that affect any given/allotted vacation time?

~ Are vacations subsidized (by employer or state); is there such a thing?

~ What are the most popular vacation/tour destinations for Chinese; is there much (if any) choice?

I know there's an issue on knife violence going on your place but the media doesn't cover it as if it doesn't happen.

Do chinese people have access to disney+ or disney channels? I observe that many LGBTQ elements in movies are lacking but it appears on the recent TV shows.

抱歉我可能忘了这个,不过您能看懂或者说中文吗?
Sorry, I may have forgotten this, but can you read or speak Chinese?

I haven't seen many movies, so I don't know about them. But after searching, there should still be many people like his movies in China。

What do you mean "because of her emotion"?
Sorry, this is not translated clearly. The detailed process is that the black man wanted to pursue his student and date her, but he was angry and killed her after being rejected。

Do you know that George Floyd died of a drug overdose and not from the knee on his neck?
It seems that I have heard this statement, but in most people's minds, Floyd was actually murdered。

I haven't seen it, but after checking it, people in China are very angry at them for publishing videos against China, and their videos have also been deleted in China. However, they are relatively rare among foreigners living in China, because many foreigners know that they only need to praise China unconditionally and criticize the west, and fans will pay attention to you, such as nanthanrich (he seems to be an American drug addict). As for YouTube who introduces China in English, I don't know much about it. I know a Lele Farley who has been banned in China。

Depending on your work, some companies will have annual leave, while some companies often work overtime and have high work intensity. Generally speaking, public servants are much easier。

Can you pick a specific vacation timeframe, or is it left up to the employer/state?
Generally speaking, it is the latter。

If you have children, does that affect any given/allotted vacation time?

Are vacations subsidized (by employer or state); is there such a thing?
There should be maternity leave, and whether there is a holiday subsidy depends on the company. What I know is that there is no trade union in China, and it is difficult to implement the labor law. However, as a student, I have not fully understood these。

What are the most popular vacation/tour destinations for Chinese; is there much (if any) choice?
Sanya in Hainan is in the tropics with beautiful beaches. It's very popular. Yunnan and Tibet are also common destinations. Beijing, Shanghai and Hangzhou are also good choices。

What do people make of the new three child policy and do you know anybody planning to have more children because of it?
Some people around me want to have a third child, but as far as I know, most of the comments on the Internet are that many people have to give up having children because of high parenting costs, such as buying a house and education. More and more people choose DINK. The government is revising its family planning policy in order to increase the declining birth rate, but it seems to be facing severe population problems in the future。

Yes, there were many knife attacks in June. One case happened in Anhui, in which a person killed 6 people and injured 14 people. Another case happened in Dalian, in which a person killed 5 people by driving to revenge society。

Do chinese people have access to disney+ or disney channels
It seems that only Hong Kong can do it。

Ok, I've got some random ones...

How much forest or untouched wilderness is left in China? Are there any state run reserves there?

Is a lot of stuff actually cheap in China or have I just been lied to by the internet?

In a global perspective, the more population you have the demand increases. It's already a problem about overfishing to feed billions everyday.
I'm glad that people choose DINK as an option. But government being government, there's a possibility that you will be forced to make and raise kids without addressing the cost of raising a child.
