I got a turntable a few days ago, and decided to start a record collection. So far, I got 5 albums and a few old albums my mother sent me. Who here likes/listens to vinyl records?

Just got rid of a shitload of records actually, culling my collection so it can fit on one shelf.

Saying that all my records are pretty embarrassing, I'm a huuuuuge mcca and Beatles fan so they take up like half my collection. Couple of Lennon ones too but meh, thats only cuz he did a pretty decent rock n roll covers album, and everyone owns imagine.

I've got some singles floating about too, mainly new wave songs.

My favourite lp however has gotta be Tangerine Dream by Kaleidoscope.

That bastard took me months and months to find, i don't think it sold many but it's a bloody decent album.

Wow, That's some pretty awesome stuff! I love John Lennon, but I have yet to find any Beatles/Lennon albums at my local record exchange that's within my price range. My collection is growing little by little. I found quite a fondness with this old media.

So far, my entire collection consists of:

3 DEVO albums
2 Oingo-Boingo albums
1 Daft Punk album (I got RAM and Homework coming in the mail. :mrgreen: )
1 Electric Light Orchestra album
2 Cars albums
2 Areo-Smith Albums
and a Moody Blues album.

Also a crap ton of Earth, Wind, and Fire, and a Best of Steely Dan album.
As a joke, my mom sent me an old 45 of Perry Como. Jokes on her, I happen to love Papa Loves Mambo.

What kind of turntable have you got? I've been collecting records (especially dance records) for my turntables and mixer since I was a kid. I've got a MK2 Technics SL1210 and a MK1 Technics SL1800 from around 1978 and it's still going strong. Technics build an awesome turntable but the parent company Matsushita has discontinued the Technics brand turntables so if you want a good solid deck that will last for ever any 1000 series is worth going for. Get one whilst you still can.

I got a new Audio-Technica LP-120 that my dad gave me. Its not really as extravagant as a Technics 1200 but given the limits of my income, that dream is currently out of reach. The LP-120 is essentially a Chinese ripoff of a 1200, but with a fair head on it, and a reverse button. I wont lie, it sounds really good and its all I really need at the moment. But don't get me wrong. The first Technics I find that's in my rage, is going on my stereo rack! 8-)

I have a Garrard record changer from 1973 that is built into an AM/FM tuner (currently listening to a funk show from the school district-based public radio station on the tuner) and 8-track player, with vintage Fisher speakers that I'll be changing out for 1970s Bang & Olufsen speakers I bought on Craigslist recently, great sound. Also have a ton of records, mostly jazz, rock, blues, R&B, disco, funk and avantgarde stuff like Zappa, Varese and Sun Ra, but a little bit of country and some Chicano lowrider-type music.

My MK 1210 cost me £300 a while ago but my MK1 1800 only cost me £70. All the 1000 series Technics turntables use the same direct drive system and all come with pitch control and strobe light so you can dj with them. If you ever see a decent 1000 series on ebay for under $120 grab it. Your cartridge and stylus can make a massive difference to the sound too, I use Stanton Diablos on my turntables which bear an uncanny resemblance to Chris's duck...

Kawaii what do you have your turntable hooked up to? I have my decks hooked up to a Technics SUZ1 amplifier from 1979 and it's still going strong, with the output coming from a pair of JSW speakers. The speakers aren't the best ever but I can take the SUZ1 pretty high before any distortion occurs.

Sound systems of today (if you can even call them that) look really gay, an Ipod docking station with a few little speakers looks totally pathetic. When I crank up the volume I expect the room to shake.

I love vinyl. I plan on buying a 45rpm jukebox sometime soon and I also wish to get a decent hi-fi system with turntable.
