Might as well be true but I have seen too often how likely these tear jerking tragic true stories are in fact real, especially if you have some trendy and radical statement to support with the said story.

"I spent a lot of my day doing basic math to determine how much money it would take me to buy pants"

Did they run out of fingers? Do they not know their hourly wage? How does one not spend more than five minutes determining how many hours they have to work to afford something? Its not like they're a waiter in this little story either, there would be no variation accounting for tips.

"Cough medicine is 2 hours 20 minutes of work"

A bag of cough drops is 3$. I'm not sure these people ever went to a drug store before. I can find some that are 30$, but only bulk sales with like 12 bags. By my math they must make $1.3 an hour.

"Mother brought her 1000 degree knife fever kids to get medicine instead of letting them rest at home with powerade while she went out to get the medicine"

As one do. Does she live in the place that is both so ghetto you can't leave your kids in the house for 5 minutes without them being kidnapped and so affluent cough drops are 30$?

"Fighting for survival"

Ibuprofen confirmed life saving medication. Those three children were certainly doomed before our modern day robin hood slipped them some fever meds.

I'm reading this in horror because I used to work as a cashier and being above or over the amount expected, having fake bills or fraudulent coupons... that shit gets you into trouble. You make a habit out of that and that gets you fired. You might be able to get away with the one time of slipping a customer an bottle of medicine without ringing it up, but you do that shit on the regular? You won't be calculating how many hours it'll take to earn a bottle of cough medicine, you'll be fired and you're not getting a recommendation on your next job application, either.

Shit, it would have been nobler if she had used her own money to cover the cost of the medicine to make sure that it would be covered, instead of potentially fucking over other employees when inventory winds up short.

Last retail job I worked, there were cameras behind every register, and a manager who happened to be sitting in the office could easily catch that kind of thing. I've seen it done.
Someone who's enough of a bad worker to be helping customers steal would certainly catch the eye of management. This person also reeks of poor work ethic, so management is likely to be watching them already. The people with stank attitude at my job always got scrutinized so the managers could gather enough information to fire them, if they didn't hang themselves by just never showing up again.

Also. Hunny's rent is less than $400? Registers usually stock 150 to 200, if they get enough cash in them then they should be stripped for the cashier's safety. I can't think of a reasonable rent amount that would be also a reasonable amount to keep in the drawer. If you are a grown-ass person with a job and no kids, and you can't afford less than $400 in rent, you need to do fucking better,

Oh man, I didn't think about cameras. The last time I worked as a cashier was over a decade ago.

We truly do live in a society.

Well, aren't we lucky?

Just kidding. While not every place has cameras, I get a big box vibe from this post (walmart, target, grocery) and those certainly would.

It sounded like a CVS or a Walgreen's, which, yeah, very understandable why a drug store would have cameras behind the cashiers now that I think about it.

When I was a cashier, my register started at $200 and didn't get pulled until I had at least $1000. idk why some of you make these crazy reaches just to try to one up the person in the story.

They said cough medicine. Cough syrups run around $10-15. Someone making say $9/hr probably has a take home pay closer to $6/hr which multiple that by 2 hrs and 20 min, they would make $14.
