I counted calories for 29 days straight... - 09/07/19

Funny thing, calorie counting "doesnt work" for fat people only. For the rest of us it works like a charm.
One would think, maybe they overestimate what they eat and cant stick to the plan? Nope, they are wonders of biology and special snowflakes.
I watched a very early AL video awhile back and she was giving excuses about exercising saying she loses faster without it and gains when she does walking...I think it was when she was with Krystle and went to the gym and could still use the equipment. She's been making these "what works for me" excuses since the begnning

Does anyone else ever notice that she eats whole bags of things,
I think you're on the money here. An incredibly basic thing Amberlyn could do to help herself is only take one serving at a time. But that requires a tiny bit of willpower so...

Counting calories for people that are already neurotic ding-bats puts them under even more stress.
Maybe she should be under more stress?

Honestly calorie counting is a good example of "learn all the rules then after you do forget about them and live life."

But she and others need to learn the rules first. Like that she is eating too much. She's not a special unicorn where she eats a normal amount but balloons. They need to learn what foods have too many calories and decide what they want to spend their calories on. One person might be happy with healthy meals but needs a nice dessert. Other people are happy to cut back on snacks but really enjoy a filling meal.

Then after you adjust to figure out what's good for a normal day, you don't worry about Thanksgiving or Christmas or having an evening out once a week. You get used to your new life style and maintain without counting. If you're gaining or losing more than you like, you adjust.

But I think it's a crucial step.

Girl would be fine if she did some intermittent fasting and could eat one meal a day. Sadly, she'd make that meal McDonald's tho, but if she did eat one Big Mac, Large Fries and a Coke, she'd still lose weight. But she wouldn't eat just that. She can't.

She could eat that 2-3 times a day and if that's all she ate she could probably still lose weight. (Maybe she'd have to make it a diet coke if she did it 3 times a day. )

There are a billion things AL could do to lose weight. She will do none of them. Sure, she might pick one little trick to half-heartedly attempt for a few weeks -- like drinking more water -- but eventually, she'll regress.

Which is part of the reason why normal dieting advice won't work for her.

The other part of the reason it won't work is because she's not tweaking an otherwise healthy diet or lifestyle to drop a few pounds. Anyone on earth can put on a bit of weight when they drop their good habits and develop some bad ones. For that matter, given enough time and/or bingeing, a normal person could put on a considerable amount of weight. Then they'd need to do a course correction to get themselves back to health.

AL is not normal. The things people talk about with dieting -- calorie counting, intermittent fasting, even Weight Watchers -- can be effective tools. Some of them, such as portion control or label-reading, are critical skills. None of them will work for her because she's not a healthy-ish person who's put on some (or even a lot) of weight.

She's never had a healthy, normal relationship with food. For that matter, she's never not been obese. She has a personality disorder that prevents her from taking advice. She thinks she's smart enough to fool anyone, including doctors, and figures if she can find a loophole, that means she wins the prize of being skinny AND gluttonous. She is legitimately delusional, and beyond being in denial about any of her "situations," be they fat or finances. And above all else, she doesn't want to change, because she likes eating as many calories as she physically can, and she's enough of a spoiled brat to insist to herself that she can do whatever she wants and that somehow it'll work out because of reasons. She doesn't understand that she's dying and that she won't be able to pitch a fit and intimidate Death into giving her a few more years just to avoid her tantrum.

tl;dr She's fucking broken in the brain. All of this diet advice is off-topic, AFAIC.

Because she's still waiting for that one trick that lets her change nothing and accomplish everything.

If she actually had kept working out she could have lost weight, but she didn't. If she had actually cut calories she could have lost weight but she didn't. If she had stuck with the weight watchers suf she could have lost weight, but she didn't. If she had stuck to optavia she could have lost weight, but she didn't. If she can honestly replace a large meal with those bag salads, she'll lose weight... but she isn't.

It's like she thinks because she wants it, it should fall into her lap. The problem is that she doesn't want it more than she wants to eat as much as she wants whenever she wants.

tbf the "diets dont work" meme has a kernel of truth in it - regular "X weeks to lose Y amounts of weight while eating Z" diet is exceptional.
a real "diet which works" is called eating like a normal member of homo sapiens which fat and obese people HAVE to learn.

I'm sorry, unless you're a diabetic following a strict diet, counting calories has been proven to fail.
In patients with serious obesity, only weight loss surgery has been shown to be effective long term. There are some outliers that manage to diet their way out of serious obesity, but not many, and they tend to make fitness or dieting into their career. Calorie counting works fine on normal people.

Yeah... because basically they've tried everything else?
