I haven't disliked it as much as most people, but this update sucks a fat dick.I’ve hated it ever since I first installed it back in 2016.
I wish I had the knowledge/confidence/skills to run a Linux OS, but I can’t risk bricking my machine. Certainly not with all that irreplaceable vintage porn on it anyway.
Of course there's also the crazy amount of data they collect as well as delivering 3rd party ads right to your desktop.
They also changed a bunch of the icons2 hours of update. Win10 disabled my Windows Defender (antivirus) so to force me to update.
What was the update about? Fucking Microsoft Edge shit and bloatware for skype.
I hate windows.
I don't know when you last checked it out, but outside of games with anti-cheat or crazy DRM, games tend to run pretty well with Proton. If Macs and Linux supported games better and didn't have cringe sycophant fanbases, I never would have touched Windows after 8.
You can always spin up a virtual machine and poke around a bit before going through with a full install. And if you're on a desktop, popping in an additional hard drive just for Linux is also a possibility.I wish I had the knowledge/confidence/skills to run a Linux OS, but I can’t risk bricking my machine. Cringe fanbase is unavoidable. Luckily the onboarding process to Linux is pretty good these days and outside of very specific hardware issues things are usually very easy to get going without having to get too involved with the community directly.

same. I'm at the cusp of just saying "fuck it" and switching to a Linux system which is Windows-like, but I use my PC for work as well and I'm not tech literate enough to not accidentally give myself a heart attack with managing/migrating to multiple OSs.That is not a choice for me sadly. I'm not tech savvy but I reckon I could install Linux or have a partition dedicated to it.
The problem is that I have an ASUS with custom hardware. It conflicts heavily with Win10 already and I don't think installing Linux will work much better (I even think it will brick my entire laptop).
I'll have to get cucked by Windows till the end.
I can't think of any conceivable reason that it would brick your laptop. In any case, you can run a live version of most Linux OSes from a USB drive. If it boots up and you can make it to the desktop environment without a cascade of error messages you're probably golden. If there's massive compatibility errors it'll just shit its pants and do nothing. The problem is that I have an ASUS with custom hardware.
