I have this webcomic idea but I'd like critique on it -

Okay so it's my weird dream to bring my (some of at least) characters to life using a webcomic but I'm not sure if the premise of it sounds good enough to garner readers of any kind. Is it okay for me to ask you guys for a bit of a critique on my idea because I worry that all my friends who seem to love the idea are just trying to humour me by saying it sounds good.

The Potente Se Lyuk pills are distributed to anybody who wishes to use them. Be it for good or bad, the power is within the will of the swallower.

In a world where super powers come in pill form the crime rate within Boning has spiked within twenty years to a level it can’t control. It may look as though things are just fine on the surface but if you stick around in the right places for long enough you’ll see that it’s all a façade, schools have protection brackets to pay and the friendly old man living next door is probably running some kind of illegal trade when you don’t see him sat on his porch. It doesn’t help that we have a rampant demon infestation… But in the all the corruption there are the kinds of people who want to help others who find themselves happening upon less than desirable circumstances.

Problem is, they need volunteers all the time and a willing party often doesn’t know what they’re getting themselves into…

The blurb is lifted from my writing tumblr and is from the perspective of a main character living in a world parallel to earth in the sense that it has the same technological progression and what not but the difference is that the law enforcement is practically non existent. So things like biological experiments on unconsenting test subjects occur (they're called "bios" by people) and crime lords are rampant. The main storyline is about people who volunteer themselves to solve/prevent crimes in a group "volunteer vigilantes". Throughout the story the characters are helped or more often hindered by demons that roam the streets.

Now I've done all my spergy explaining would you guys be so kind as to give me some feedback on this idea?

I didn't actually know there was a place called intercourse, I was going more along the idea of the dildo islands.

It's a made up place (yes the name is intended as a joke, the comic is supposed to have a lot of humour in it) basically a made up country on the western hemisphere because setting it in a real place doesn't allow me to have much fantasy and I'm not keen on using real places myself. Basically Boning is intended to be it's own country somewhat akin to America in the sense that the mass population is made up of immigrants. I should have really explained that in my original post but hey, I'm a fucking idiot and I forget these things. Sorry about the confusion.

Well, if I'm going to critique the idea I will say this: it sounds rather interesting, volunteer's take a pill that can give them powers to fight the seedy underbelly that hides behind the facade of Boning, but while they may gain powers, the volunteer's can suffer from potential effects of the pills, with humor added into the mix. All I can say is that this story does seem rather original though to be honest I don't read much web-comics. Still I like the idea. If you want some more critique, then please post more info for the rest of us to critique.

It's not so much side effects more the fact that the volunteers don't know just what kind of scenarios they get thrust into.
There is something about the pills though, they may give you powers but the pills are effected by certain emotions (hormones) so a power could be amplified by a sudden increase of testosterone but be lowered by endorphins. It's all dependent on the person's biochemistry for example one character with a nervous disposition has the power of invisibility which is controllable when he is calm and his anxiety levels are low but when he gets nervous or worried he flashes between states of invisibility and visibility.

It's a good idea so far, but a good idea can fall flat on its face due to poor execution. What I am saying is definitely go ahead since I think you have something going for it. Likewise, bad ideas can become good when taken in the worthy hands of a writer. Codex Alera was basically started on the idea of "Romans and Pokemon" and it was basically a bet that he made to make a bestseller based on a bad idea, but write it so that its a good ideaand it turned out quite successful and it is quite good I must say. It's quite an interesting origin story for a book.

So the idea to you guys is a good base?
I'm still in the process of vetting all the different arcs (each arc has different characters it focuses on and they are divided or planned to be divided into three fragments with 3 sets in them-sets are the mini arcs where it'll switch focus from one character to another and last over a course of a few months whereas the fragments are a year apart from each other at least) but I have one pretty solid, unfortunately it's one the last of the fragments so I need to figure out the rest of it before I begin. Then there's also character designs and there are a lot of characters.

Basically my rough idea for the first arc is that there's this guy called Henry who is a bassist to a failing band and lives with his cousin who causes him a lot of ire. Henry and his band run themselves into a bit of trouble when they start fooling around in an abandoned warehouse and his band end up volunteering themselves as a publicity stunt. Henry doesn't want anything to do with this shit and tries to stay away but unfortunately for him circumstances lead to him having to volunteer.
I'd be more indepth about this but it would ruin a good chunk of the plot. I'll just say for now him and his little posse have a few run ins with a rouge money obsessed bounty hunter who has the same goal as the band's case they get given.

It's a very interesting idea. Certainly better than my idea for a webcomic.

As long as we're talking about webcomics, I had one a long time ago that I still think back to every now and then, but I think it'd have too many dog people for anyone to care about it. Even then, when I think about it, I usually think of it as an animated series and I set really unrealistic goals for it.

You can only try with it though I guess. IMO it's more important to get the idea written out to a good standard than to have animaed series or a huge fanbase.

Trombonista you're idea sounds quite funny. Could be the next Ratboy Genius.

I'd like to thank people for their feedback it's been important to ask a third party about this.
