So I'm going to be taking in a friend who's currently in an emotionally abusive relationship. Basically, her "boyfriend" is one of those tumblr type ftm non binary snowflakes who treats her like shit, takes all her money, forces her to open credit cards and tells her she's garbage and owes her her life because she takes care of her even though she doesn't. So far, I'm taking her to set up a bank account that we'll be funneling money into, we're car shopping so she can be mobile on her own and she'll be moving in with me by March or sooner.

The advice I'm seeking is hopefully from people who have been in a similar situation? Like what do you do if their ex shows up? Is there anything legal we can do about the credit cards? I'm also trying to find reliable reviews on those throwaway phones from walmart but the internet has such mixed reviews.

Honestly this girl has to want these things for herself. I get that you want to help her out, but unless she wants to be rid of this other guy then i's a lost cause. I used to be in an abusive relationship as well. The guy I was with always had to be on the other line with my phone calls, insisted he drive us everywhere even though it was my car, and would lose his mind anytime another guy posted something on my FB. After a few years I finally had enough and left the dumb fuck after watching him get hauled off for stupid shit. But I wanted to be out of there and pushed myself to get the things I needed to be free from him. And it's been a good five years since and its such a relief not having him there.
