I went to Ted Bundy's place the other day. -

A friend and I went to check out where Ted Bundy's house was when he was attending the University of Utah. The house is gone, but the stairwell and cellar are still there. Ted started killing women here in Utah before he moved to Washington. One of the first girls was the daughter of a local police chief or sheriff and was also a friend of my Mom.

My Mom was attending Florida State University when Bundy terrorized the sorority house. She wasn't a member of that sorority, though, but it freaked her out pretty badly because she had all of the physical attributes that Bundy liked in his victims--pale skin, light-colored eyes, long brown hair parted in the middle. My mom's been an avid reader of Ann Rule books since then.

I've only read part of "The Stranger Beside Me," but it's a terrifying read. For those of you who don't know, Ann Rule is a prolific true crime writer who got her start writing a biography of the Bundy murders--it turns out that Ann Rule worked with Bundy at a suicide crisis hotline in Washington state, and "The Stranger Beside Me" was part analytical look at the murders, part introspective look into how you can never really know a person.
