I remember when I was a little kid I made up a gibberish thing and thought it would sound super cool not realizing that it would alienate everyone. Rat Kings just haven't grown out of that phase yet.

I think it's partly to do with narcissism, which a lot of these types of people exhibit. Picking a "weird" name is obviously meant as a way to make you stand apart from other people.
Also, many people consider the act of naming one's self to be an expression of control and power. Something they usually lack in their regular lives.

Exactly. The entire point of being a tranny is to pass one day. Yet people like ADF exist. Those who ignore or miss the point of being a tranny entirely, and see the opportunity to get asspats from other pseudo-tranny sycophants as well as from genuinely well-meaning folks who don't know any better. It's a phase I can't wait to die out. Fake trannies are like the emos of this decade. They want to stand out.
None of the trannies I know want to be recognized as male by any means, so they go to great lengths to conceal it. They either have altered their male names to very reasonable and feminine sounding names or have created a new name that is equally rational. They do their best to pass with what they have been given, taking advantage of hair, makeup, and fashion.
One of them is post-op and is drop-dead gorgeous. These are people I hold near and dear to my hear and consider my friends, and have went through legitimate grief and heartache to get to where they are today. It sickens me to know that a bunch of sheltered and entitled whiny teenagers have made a mockery of their struggle just because it's the latest fad and they have to be "different."
Tumblrite trannies are no different than people in blackface.

It's all weeaboo shit. Eclaire is the actual name of Final Fantasy XIII's protagonist Lightning in Japan, changed to Claire in the US release. And Terra (Tina in Japan) Branford is the protagonist of Final Fantasy VI.
Richard has always liked the Final Fantasy series, VI in particular judging on how he has pixelblock art of the FFVI cast on his wall and the pictures of Terra he's posted on Facebook.
Laurelai is actually a woman's name. It's an old fashioned one, but those are pretty trendy these days.
