I would make sungazing a core tenet of my cult because I find the idea of someone giving themselves eye damage for religious reasons very, very funny. Additionally, because it's already an established new-age spiritual idea it might be easier to convince people to do it.

I'd combine Scientology with COVID hysteria and the wellness industry.

Some bullshit about how interacting in the world exposes you to corrupting pathogens. Through our masks, products and services you can cleanse yourself. We have hippy meditation sessions to cleanse the mind. Special hand sanitiser. Special lightbulbs for your home. Have some kind of Scientology level structure where you can train yourself to be more resilient to the pathogens. Of course, you can completely reset your resilience if the cult wants to punish your behaviour or thoughts. The pathogens feed on your doubt to their existance.

Members wears masks with our symbol on them. Which will make others paranoid there's a threat. Helping to recruit. It's mainly about making money. The fear of collecting the corrupting things, will isolate people from the world more. Becoming more reliant. We can offer safety. They start using our restaurants, products and services.

Fear of the pathegoens in the world would have a strong affect in isolating people from the outside world, friends and families.
