Hope the Indonesian govt. will give Prabowo more funds so that Indonesia can have a proper navy. It's embarrassing that you need to ask your neighbors for help since you have no submarine rescue vessels, even though Singapore have 4 and Indonesia haveThis isn't surprising, really. The Indonesian Navy has historically always been shit. The country is way too big with a massive coastline and too undeveloped to be able to afford a competent green-water navy to defend its own waters effectively. There's a reason you seldom hear about this country in the news. And If you have, have you ever wondered why Indonesia doesn't pick a side in any conflict and just wants to be buddy-buddy with every country in the world (sans Israel)? Because the coastline and terrain is so indefensible that a regional power like China or Australia could exploit the country's ethnic divisions and the government wouldn't be able to do shit about it.
Of course they're fine, they're not 850m underwater.“The family is in a good condition"
As shitty as the situation is, there's a bit of honor to be gained by going down with a vessel you serve on. It's not much, but it's something. I don't know about their naval culture, but at least a few of them were proud to go out the way they did.Man.......not how I would want to go. Such a horrifying death.
Makes me think of the case where some reporter got raped and dismembered in a submarine by some sick freak.
They are slowly building up their Navy and Air force now and are slowly starting to push back against BS Chinese maritime claims. This isn't surprising, really. If there was an explosion in the torpedo tube like is being suspected now, it might not have been an issue with the sub. Could have been a malfunction with the torpedo. The room where the torpedos are loaded is usually packed with ordnance so a tube explosion that goes back into the loading room is a quick death sentence for everyone. We will get a very detailed report in the next years. there are almost 60 other Type 209 in service by a lot of different navys and they are still building new ones for egypt.
We'll see if they improve. These are new submarines they're obtaining, after all. Be that as it may, one must still not underestimate Indonesia's geopolitical challenges. Yes they're rich in resources and population. But again, Indonesia is as wide as the width between Paris and Kabul. Funding a navy big enough to patrol Indonesian waters is a very tall order to fill, and tax collection isn't Indonesia's strong suit with wanton amounts of corruption, and most Indonesians don't make much money to begin with. They are slowly building up their Navy and Air force now and are slowly starting to push back against BS Chinese maritime claims.
They already have 3 new subs in service and 3 more are the on the way. The one they lost was 41 years old....Loading…

Thats the same old design with some new tech. if there is a till now unknown flaw in the design they will have the same problem. They already have 3 new subs in service and 3 more are the on the way. The one they lost was 41 years old....
well "new" Its the cheap and outdated option, but its the best they can get i guess since they are on the nono list in germany and korea is not allowed to export Type 214.These are new submarines they're obtaining, after all.
They should go back to their roots, listing their country on the dutch stock exchange. But again, Indonesia is as wide as the width between Paris and Kabul. Well Australia will not be an issue in the future, they cucked themself for the next decades. their new Sub is inferior to the 40 year old sub that sunk.Sure they'll get a few Western-made ships and submarines, and they'll defend the Natuna Islands' EEZ from Chinese vessels, but at the end of the day they're still a joke compared to tiny Singapore's, and it'll be a long time before they can amass a fleet big enough to rival Australia's, if that's even politically and economically possible.
