The situation right now is speculative because the Democrats have not done anything yet. People are hyped up on what they "could" do, but nobody is going to go out and burn down the country over "could". The real weather vane moment will be when they actually do something. Like say, an overly restrictive gun ban, rammed through the Senate by getting rid of the filibuster and the Vice President breaking the tie vote. Now that could really makes some cracks.

What happened in Virginia last year was a dress rehearsal for the proposed national gun legislation. The circumstances were pretty much the same. A very narrow Democratic Party majority based entirely inside a few urban centers attempted to pass sweeping gun legislation that saw 3/4s of the States counties pass resolutions saying they would not enforce the new laws. It eventually saw the Democrats back off most of it. I foresee something similar occuring at a national level, where you will see State governments doing the exact same thing, and saying they have no intention of helping the feds enforce these laws.

The real question is how far they will go. Will they simply step aside and look the other way, or will they actively hinder federal enforcement. Now that is a spicy meatball better left in the fridge. But I don't think the people currently in charge of Washington DC fully appreciate the ramifications of their chosen course.

Except its not a good long term solution. The problem I see is that the political leadership has drunk the kool aid. They assume the 2020 election has given them a mandate. It did not. The amount of issues around it were enough to throw serious doubt on the legitimacy of the current government. Whether such doubts are unfounded is not material. What matters is that they exist, and have no been addressed.

Future historians will look back on the Federal Courts refusal to hear the arguments over the 2020 election with the same contempt they view their decision to hear the Dredd Scott case and rule against Scott. Something too many people forget that is that the decision to not make a decision is STILL a decision. And when you decide to not do something this choice has long term ramifications. They had a chance, before 2021, to address the very real and very deeply held concerns among millions of Americans over the legitimacy of their electoral process. And rather then even dignify the complaint with a hearing, they took the cowards route and ignored it. While the institutional press parroted the lie that the courts had actually ruled against the claims of electoral issues. When no such rulings were made because all the cases were dismissed on procedural grounds without ever addressing the facts.

Any government that comes to power under these circumstances should be circumspect and mindful of the actual political realities it faces. Biden's ascension is akin to an illegitimate bastard of the king gaining the throne because no better option was available and he got crowned first by the bishop so there. His power base is weak, and his potential successor, the vice president, is already circling like a shark to take the throne herself. This is a huge problem. Bidens mandate to wake up each morning in the White House is tenuous. Never mind his mandate to enforce sweeping economic and cultural mandates on the entire country.

I can think of no better a toxic brew for something very bad to happen. Made all the worse by the fact that millions of Americans are taught from birth that all political authority is ultimately derived from the barrel of a gun. How nice that the very first major cultural change is going to be a gun ban. Just great.

Mostly because this belief helps them fit snugly into the rabbit warren that provides them with security and the smugness of knowing they are on the Right Side of History. "Why, I'm a hero, just like the people in the TV shows I watch!" The fact that the people making their TV shows, reporting their news, and teaching their schools are all in ideological lockstep isn't a warning to them, but a confirmation of the rightness of those beliefs. There is absolutely no skepticism among the young. We are turning into a nation of programmed NPCs.

I absolutely agree with you, mostly, but there likely isn't going to be any ban on firearms at the federal level. Manchin has basically destroyed any chance of that happening by saying that he won't vote for repealing the filibuster. You might see some executive orders(which are limited since they need to work within existing law), and some more bullshit at the state level, but not much more than that.
