Sonichu Interest Check: Community built Sonichu RPG Maker Game -

I'm the one who pestered Gawker for his Sonichu sprites and now that I have them I want to make a game happen. There's a lot of wasted talent floating around these boards, and it would be great if I could get some of you to come here and waste it with me on this game.

I think it would be fun if we pooled our talents to make a Sonichu game for RPG Maker. I know my way around RPG Maker enough to do it myself but I think it would be quicker and more interesting to try and crowd source the thing, to an extent. It would certainly be more fun to get a bunch of people involved.

I'm not looking for a big commitment (though happy to have one), any scraps of work you want to contribute would be great. I'm already going to use Gawker's awesome sprites, but I'm sure the project would still benefit from someone with some skill at spriting. Anyone else who knows how to use RPG Maker (perhaps someone better at mapping than me) could really help take the pressure off me. Artists could draw faces or enemies, musicians could score original music, writers could help develop the story and write dialogue/in-game pop ups. There's a lot of ways people could add to a project like this.

So at this stage I'm just gauging interest. I'm only really looking to do this if I can get a lot of community involvement. The first thing to decide would be what the basic plot of the game would be. I think collecting the sonichu balls to make some kind of a wish is a very game-able starting point.

To head an inevitable post off at the pass: yes, I'm aware of Maple's work on Adult Chronicles but there are many different interpretations of a Sonichu RPG one could make. Just as there is room for more than one fan comic, I feel there's room for more than one game.

Great idea! I think I will be able to contribute as a programmer (possibly)I havn't used the program in a while though, as I am making my own solo projects via game maker studio. Uzumaki, can I ask what version of RPG Maker we are using so that I can check if I have the right version?

I can also do basic sprite works, and better ones assuing I have a base. I am not excellent at this , however.

VX Ace. Adx, next time read the entire forum please before asking these kinds of questions.
I'm not a big fan of XP and above. I'd think 2000 or 2003 would fit the shitty nature of Sonichu, but I'll still contribute maps.

I really need to learn RPG maker. I have a horror project I've been working on with a few friends, were still writing but I need to get a grip on the program. I'd love to help but I'd be learning along the way.

Dunno if there is anything in particular I could help out with, but if you can think of anything, let me know and I'll see if I can accommodate.

Okay, awesome, that's a ton of people. Still happy to include anyone else who's interested, but we can definitely work with this.

The first place to start would be to come up with an overall premise for the game so we have something to work with. I think one way to go might be to do something similar to my defunct fancomic Sonichu Z (although less time-travel-y) and have Chris return to CWCville after having neglected it for so long and finds it overrun with new trolls. So the bosses would be Chris's as-yet-unsonichu'd real-life enemies turned into Sonichu villains in the style of the original comic. I'm thinking Chris shows up as Tomgirl Chris, and has to slowly collect his clown shirt and his glasses and become Classic Chris again so that he can defeat the trolls and save CWCville. Maybe each troll has a sonichu ball and he needs to collect them all to restore CWCville to it's former "glory".

Edit: There's a lot of potential villains: The Gamestop rapist, the head of Sega and his army of soul-less blue armed sonic clones made from the DNA of a captive sonic, who maybe can join your party if you rescue him, Snyder, the snake kid whose cat he killed, the greedy firemen, the list goes on.

That's my pitch. If anyone else has an idea post it here and maybe we could have a vote or something.

Maybe Chris has to find all of his old friends to take down SEGA. He then finds out that his friends have not been well ever since he left. Sonichu is retired and married to Rosechu, Magi-Chan left CWC-Ville to pursue a nomad lifestyle, Punchy lost his arm to Blue-Armed Sonic, Wild is completely feral, Angelica lost her faith and went insane, while Bubbles is just dead.

My idea for a game would be a Sonichu pokemon game, with the protagonist as solid chris, liquid as your 'rival', the PVCC as the evil team, acting as JERKS, to stop you for no apparent reason, while you search far and wide to get your sweetheart and become a pokemon master. You know, like Pokemon Lightning version. You would be able to catch sonichus, rosechus, etc, and would travel through the region of Virginia.

Sorry about the bad writing, I'm kind of in a hurry.

Have you thought of playing with the idea of juggling the game worlds between CWCville and real life Ruckersville/Charlottesville like they do in the Legacy of Kain series? As in, in the CWCville his enemies and powers are more fantastical(like seen in the comic), but in the 'real world' both his opposition is more mundane(jerkops, weens, BRUTE MALES), but Chris himself de-powered accordingly. Some relics, such as the Megatron pistol / Pocket Knife / Mace can would still function in the 'real world' but they would be a step-down from his Sonichu powers. The shift between the 'real world' and CWCville would happen either between chapters of gameplay, or certain places in CWCville would allow Chris to warp back into Ruckersville for special events like the House Fire or battle against the snake assassin that has been bred purely for his demise.

Yeah, or like in the non-terrible Silent Hill games. So you play through Chris's real life adventures as an adventure game until he reaches a breaking point, then it becomes an RPG with special attacks and madness until you defeat the "boss" at which point it goes back to being an adventure game. Rinse and repeat.

Hn... I don't know. It feels a little too similar to Maple's game, except with a different focus. That's not a bad thing in itself, but I myself don't find that interesting enough.

Maybe because I've been playing 7th Stand User recently and an idea like that sounds more interesting. Someone gets dumped in CWCville and has to find a way to survive while ruining Chris' plans.

Maybe we could think of a way to distinguish it from Maple's game. I've considered a combat system similar to that of Paper Mario/ Stick Of Truth, although I don't know if you could do that with RPG Maker.
