Apparently it was the band's management company acting alone who filed the lolsuit, and I can see the logic in rolling over to them because otherwise they get mired in endless litigation just before release. But still, it encourages them.

Hopefully when it's out some enterprising modder will create a thing that restores its proper name and so forth. Probably just a case of swapping out some graphics files tbh.

I'm still looking forward to it because I love 90s FPSes and this isn't just a 90s style FPS, it is a 90s FPS.

I remember seeing Iron Maiden in Madison Square Garden a good fifteen years ago where Bruce Dickinson went on this long spiel about how he supported people taping the show. Methinks they really need to have a word with their management company.

As for the game; I've been sold on it since watching the in-depth Digital Foundry video. Game looks face meltingly amazing. Like Duke Nukem 3D on turbo roids.

How was the show in general?

I have it on early access (yes, I know...) and it's excellent. It's fast as fuck, levels are full of secrets and things to fiddle with and shout outs, weapons are way over the top (the starting ones are an electrified nightstick and a triple-barrelled revolver and you can get your hands on a shotgun-cum-grenade launcher, dual wielding Uzis, a minigun which somehow manages to be the least ridiculous of the weapons in the game, and similar), and that lovely late 90s style tracker music. If the multiplayer is half as good as Quake's or Doom's was, I may just do a sex wee.

Speaking of throwback FPSes, are Wrath or Amid Evil any good?

They had Motorhead open for them, but unfortunately Motorhead's audio equipment wasn't setup right so the sound was blown out. Maiden had way more speakers and better audio engineers so their set sounded great, but it wasn't as awesome as seeing them at an outdoor venue like Jones Beach. Now that I think about it this was more than 15 years ago since this was the Brave New World tour.

You are making it more and more difficult to resist jumping the gun. Is the multiplayer confirmed as definitely happening? And are they doing both deathmatch and co-op?

I wonder if they ever sued over Teenage Dirtbag. That was the first place I ever heard about Iron Maiden and didn't know they were a real band for years:

To this day, in my head, I still have trouble separating them from that song in my head

For the record you should buy it now because they are gonna jack the price up in a few days.
This is however due to the game doubling in scope from it's initial early access preview campaign release.

I would buy it now. Seriously.

I won't lie, I was somewhat reluctant of giving Ion Maiden a shot, since how much Bombshell sucked. But if it's as fun as you describe, might as well buy it and give it a shot.

From what I saw Wrath is very promising since it seems to be using the Quake 1 engine and it seems rather fun. Amid Evil also isn't half bad, since it has the same feel as DUSK did, I would also suggest giving Project Warlock a shot, it's like a throwback to Doom, Heretic and Hexen though it's a GOG exclusive.

The owners of the Iron Maiden trademarks also own the Iron Maiden trademark for video games: https://trademarks.justia.com/881/88/iron-88188482.html

So creating a game called "Ion Maiden" would be like creating a game called "Older Scrolls", "Diabolo", "Hall of Duty", "Candy Crash" etc., or a cartoon avian character named "Ronald Duck".

Don't do that, that's illegal. It counts as trademark infringement.

If nothing else happened except for some finger-wagging and renaming, then I don't see anything to raise pitchforks about.

PS. "Iron Fury" is also trademarked, but only for "dietary and nutritional supplements for use by men for building muscle, losing fat, and general fitness", so a video game with a similar name is fine.

Fun fact: There already is an Iron Maiden video game. It's called Ed Hunter and it came packaged with a best of 2CD set back in the 90s. The actual game is a bog standard rail shooter where you kill hoodlums and demons and stuff.

Some of us are committed Iron Maidenists and we are very offended by blasphemous misinvocation of Their name and violation of Their holy IP rights

\m/

\m/, but Bruce Dickinson's ego seems to be inflating.

I'll tell your whose ego really is inflated - Joey DeMaio of Manoway. All the setlists for their most recent shows have had a segment marked "Joey's Speech." At least one of these was Joey drunkenly explaining how to pull girls by basically trousering up to them and dropping on them Sid the Sexist tier chat up lines because in his opinion, a girl's decided if she'll fuck you within the first five seconds so nothing you do matters.

Wow, at least we have confirmation of the release date. One good thing about Ion Fury is that any of the features Ion Fury gets will be added to EDuke32 (one notable feature being online multi-player). Unlike Doom (which has source ports dedicated to online multi-player), Duke 3D online is done by using DOSBox.

When I played it you only got the minigun at the very end and didn't get much of a chance to use it. It was a little too unfinished for my liking and I refunded it. Yes, yes, I know, Early Access blah blah blah, but there's varying levels of "early access." It all depends on the level of polish.

On that note, Amid Evil is fucking amazing. Buy it. And there were no problems when it and Dusk were in Early Access.

but an iron maiden is a medieval torture device. the band didn't invent the term they're spoofing. I don't know copyright law but that's dumb as shit.

yeah I'll second his opinion. it's real good if you like build engine games. it's just taking them an absurd amount of time to make.
