Irn Bru and other worldwide sodas - Made from girders

Irn Bru is a soda made in Scotland by AG Barr (who also make an assortment of other sodas including a really nice bubblegum flavoured one). It's orange and nobody can truly describe the taste.

I'm probably the only Scottish person that hates the stuff. Tourists, however, can't seem to get enough of it. Hell, McDonald's restaurants in Scotland have it on their menu.

What sodas do you guys have in other parts of the world that are made locally and aren't the standard Coke, Fanta etc. I know the Germans have Mezzo Mix but that's about it.

Irn Bru fucking rocks, what are you on
My local sodas that I like are Baikal and Tarhun. The good kind actually tastes like herbs and they are very refreshing and sweet.
There is also this soda called "Taejnii Dar (Taiga Gift)", which is basically Baikal, but with various berries. Can't get enough of that shit.

Common sense.

As I said Barr actually do make other good soft drinks. Then again I'd pick Irn Bru over limeade or cream soda.

Also those drinks look interesting, especially the berry one. I'll have to look into that.

Not really a soda as such, but if you mix Vimto and lemonade it's pretty fucking good.

As for Barr, I hear they do a Pineappleade which is supposedly nectar.

What is your view on Tizer and Dandelion and Burdock?

OH GOD YES their Pineappleade is glorious. Do you not get it south of the border?

We don't! We get plenty of fucking Rubicon (I believe that's a subsidy of Barr) and it can be a struggle to get Irn Bru south of Birmingham (except in Corby for obvious reasons) but we never get Pineappleade, even in Manchester!

You didn't ask me, but oh well.

Tizer's fine, it's a good hangover drink now Lucozade fucked their recipe up to dodge the sugar tax. And Dandelion And Burdock is ace during the summer when it's icy cold and you're feeling delightfully middle class. Hooper's brewery is doing an alcoholic one now which is pretty great, but the Plum & Sloe is the best one.

You can get Barr pop buts kinda hard to get outside of the big two of Tizer and Irn Bru. Chippys and independent corner shops are your best bet to get Barr pop.

I like some varieties of Jarrito's, especially the lime soda. The tamarind and guava varieties are also pretty good. They're almost as hipster-associated as Pabst Blue Ribbon beer but don't let that fool you. Soda made with real cane sugar is still pretty good.

I've seen Pineappleade around but it's far rarer to see in the field unlike the lemonade and cola flavours.

Is Dandelion a middle class drink? I mean the Ben Shaws can is pretty fancy looking compared to the other cans of pop.

I actually haven't. I've seen the lemonade and the Cream Soda in various corner shops, never Pineappleade though

I associate it with as such. :P

I remember seeing Irn Bru for sale in Poundworld in Liverpool, my friend that I was with ended up buying some because for some reason he loves the stuff. Come to think of it, I've only ever seen it for sale south of the border in pound shops...

Also yeah Rubicon is owned by Barr, as is (as far as I know) Monster Energy.

Not a fan of Tizer, sadly! I've never tried Dandelion and Burdock so I don't have an opinion of it.

Nah I've seen it in Tesco, Asda, Morrisons, Spar and service station shops, but only ever in the North. I haven't been to a Poundstore down south in a while so I can't tell you if that's how Barr's making inroads there if I'm honest.

I am really curious about this Pineappleade though. If ever you find yourself in my area, gizza bell and bring some! :P

mcdaids football special is an awesome unique drink.
The McDaids product is very local to Donegal but is thankfully now starting become a bit more common throughout the rest of Ireland.

They've also got a Banana drink which I've yet to try.

Banana pop? Oo-er.

I have seen Banana juice now being sold in stores in areas with high Asian populations. That's got me curious enough to see if this stuff's any good.

Speaking of this stuff, what's the best ginger beer currently available?

I haven't found a good one since Old Tyme went out of business or disappeared or whatever it did.

I like it extremely ginger-y. Not some hint of ginger, but overpowering ginger.

I'm sorry but all the packaging for that is reminding me of is this.

The banana one sounds interesting, never heard of a banana soda drink before.

I tried banana juice when I was in Germany a few years back. Sadly I did not like it. They sell it in my local Polish shop and whenever I see it I'm reminded of that time in Germany.

Idris' was the best. But I can't find it anywhere now.

But the fallback, Old Jamaica is still pretty good.

That reminds me, I keep meaning to go to a Cheeki Breeki store at one point just to see their weird pops. I'm sure I've seen a cactus juice carton at one point.
